Hey guys:

Was under my Speed3 this am installing my Cobb rear sway and saw this block of metal with a bracket attached to the frame.

Anyone know what it is for? I don't see any connection to it, just the 2 bolts for the bracket that attach it to the frame.

TIA!

I found a similar block of metal bolted near the driver side motor mount, puzzling.

Is the Block Rubber..or metal....It might be a Vibration Damper of some sort.
Not un-common to find things like this.

The one I found was metal. And yes I just called it a harmonic dampener.

It def was metal. I rapped my socket against it. Not sure if it was solid metal or hollow, but it was metal.

Must be a dampener.

That is actually 3 kilos of cocaine wrapped up and painted black because your Mazda dealership is using you as a drug mule.

ahaha, funny s*** right here.

Maybe if your car blows up it will tell what went wrong, like a black box on a air plane (thumb)

tuned mass damper. I would leave it in place, and I'm the idiot who thinks the billet oil cap is too heavy

haha. does anybody actually know what it is?

I'm sure that previous posters nailed it when they identified it as a harmonic damper.

BTW, just for future reference, the word is DAMPER, not dampener. It's just a pet peeve of mine. Dampening somthing is to make it slightly wet. Damping something controls unwated oscillations.

Thank you for your time. ;)

haha. pet peeves ftw.

...(uhm) so what exactly would this damper be damping?
