My ms3 doesn't feel fast anymore.

there is no such thing as "enough horsepower" i have a supercharged pickup truck running between 500-600 hp (depending on boost) it has the aerodynamics of a refrigerator but still runs in the high 11's. i still feel that i am driving a refrigerator!! maybe if it had MORE horsepower??

1. the cobb sri is only loud when you put your foot in it
2. under most driving conditions you wont know its there
3. the sound is directly related to throttle not rpm
4. yes, you can definitely feel the 10-20hp it adds.

thanks for the input.

i found one thread on this forum, where a guy installed the cobb sri, then decided that the noise was annoying, and sold it. he said that, on the freeway, when you accelerate a bit, you hear a hissing noise, if i remember correctly. i think i like the sound except for the hissing/air leak noise.

so far i've only found 1 person on this forum who didn't like the sri. is there anyone else who didn't like it?

what you want to do is get a 1.6l miata. that will make your ms3 feel faster and you'll appreciate a fuller driving experiance

i'm not going to deny that it can get expensive, but minimal gains? have you been following the boards? Intake, BOV, TBE, FMIC will put you at pretty substantial gains, than of course you could tune...get a boost controller, etc.

on another note -- id have 2 say i know my car is still fast, but it just doesnt seem as fast 2 me as it did wen i first got it -- good thing ive got some mods waiting 2 b installed..hopefully ill have those done soon...

Are you kidding me? (smash)
As for warranty you gotta know what you're getting yourself into when modding. You gotta pay to play.

You can literaly dump thousands into this car and still not be at 300whp on a DYNOJET! We all know dynojets read way too high.
I think there is wisdom in waiting for your warranty to expire before modding it up. I bought a brandnew car for the first time in my life I want to have a warranty on it.
When I do mod I want to try new routes like maybe going big turbo and skipping other supporting mods that people usally do first, see how that works ect.

That sound you hear is turbo music. When the turbo spools up and sucks in air (when you give it gas to accelerate at a decent rate) it makes the wooshing noise from the air sucking into the intake. All upgraded intakes will make this noise with a turbo. Then the PSHH! sound when you let off the gas is the BPV purging the extra pressured air. Alot of people (including myself) LOVE this sound....its VERY unique sound that hardly any cars on the road make (before I get flamed...yes I know turboed cars are not super rare...but when you drive around town...hardly any cars make the woosh pst sound). And the louder the turbo noises...usually means the car is on more boost...thus being even more powerful. So you should be proud of your sweet unique turbo music that your car makes!

Its very odd to me to see someone get "annoyed" by the turbo noises when he put on the intake. Why the HELL would you buy a turbo car and hate the noises...get a V6 or V8 then if you don't like it. I don't like the huge roar of V8s. So why in the world would I buy a V8...then complain to everyone of the noise it makes.

Like someone else said...it depends on how you drive the car. If you drive it nice and calm and have your radio off...you will hear it a little (the car next to you won't hear it though). If you gun it...you will pretty easily hear the wosh and pst...and the car next to you may hear it if they have their windows down.

Point is...this is a turboed car...its going to make those noises. Those noises are bad ass...it means power...and the guy that got annoyed from the noises is a little dumb b**** (yea...i said it) for being THAT annoyed by the noises...and buying a turboed car but not liking the noise.

And the noise is just a bonus for the intake...you will notice a pretty big difference in power. especially 2nd and 3rd gear. Those will pull alot harder.

you may get hissing on the highway if you tip in the throttle @ higher speeds. It is directly proportionate to how far down you press, and the thrust that comes from it :) , In other words, when your under boost there will be noise, not under boost no noise.

Gotta disagree with ya on the V8 sound, I love the V8 rumble, sounds so mean.

well thats fine...its your own opinion...but its stupid for a turbo hater to buy a turbo car...and a V8 hater to buy a V8 car...then complain about it

Good Day

I don't hate, I love them all!! (hippy) I like all the different sounds for different reasons. I love american muscles rumble even though I would never own one

thank you for all the advice so far. it seems the cobb sri is the first step i should take.

can you describe to me:

1. how loud is the cobb sri
2. is the sound annoying or not
3. is the sound mostly noticeable above a certain rpm?
4. does the cobb sri actually improve acceleration, or is it mostly the sound that makes it feel faster?

i've seen some youtube videos of ms3 with the cobb sri, but it's still hard to judge based on those poor quality audio.

My car still feels frisky after a year. I suppose it helps that I don't constantly get all over it, so when I do, it feels great! Anyway...

I tend to agree that modding a brand new car is silly.... However, if you have the cash, and are willing to give up your warranty (especially the more you mod), go to town. Just remember it could be expensive, and you loose the right to whine if something goes wrong.

Either way, good luck and congrats on your purchase.

The mod bug will get you. Once you start, you won't stop. My miata is a prime example. Driving between the 2 has helped me out with not getting bored. One is a raw driving experience that flys like no other on the corners and the other feels like a plush rocket ship everytime I hit Boost. Both are quick but the Speed 3 has more top end and a little more punch. I also get to experience the behavioral differences between a supercharger and turbo everyday.(burnout)

I feel the same but I counter it by slowly accelerating in 1st gear (from a stop ofcourse) until the revs hit 3 then I press down the gas pedal (smoothly) and then you feel the surge and continue to shift agressively. It always feels good. I find that A turbo car responds well when you accelerate/feed gas smoothly and not suddenly. Also summer is terrible here for driving a top mounted intercooled turbo car. Top Mount intercooler = bad bad bad for performance in hot weather. At night it reached 65F here but day is in the 90s. The difference in power is easily noticeable. I tried to see how hot my intercooler was after driving 14miles on the Highway (65ish) during a mid 90sF day. I burned the tip of my finger touching the intercooler. Once warranty is done I'm going to install a front mount intercooler asap.
