My ms3 doesn't feel fast anymore.

It gotta be, I used to drive my aunt's Suzuki Vitara, and when I got my P5, yes protege5, I actually felt it was fast. I drove fast everyday but now i recall i can see everyone on the street was still passing me when the motor is running 5k rpm full throttle.

Yeah, you probably got use to the power. After 3 days after I bought mine, the car went from quick to okay. I love the low end torque though. Nice power to get you going. I've driven all kinds of cars so I get use to power easy. Don't get me wrong though, the MS3 is great. I'd love to upgrade the suspension though.

I've had my ms3 exactly a week now. This afternoon coming back from work, I decided to drive it hard, but it didn't feel as fast as when I test drove the car at the dealership. Can you guys comment on possible causes? Here are couple of my theories:

1. The initial test drive felt really fast because I was going from a toyota Prius to the ms3. Now that I'm accustomed to the power, it doesn't have the same thrill.

2. The initial drive was in the morning when the temperature was around 75 degrees. today in the afternoon, temp was almost 100 degrees. turbo cars do better with colder air, right?

I guess it could be a combination of both, but mostly #1. My next question is, should I upgrade the ECU, eg with the Cobb accessport? With my stock car, Cobb says that I will only get a 2.5% boost in HP, and 8% boost in torque. I have a feeling that's not going to thrill me much.

Now I have a more philosophical question. Is it simply human nature to want something more and, once you achieve it, you want even more? If I get the Cobb ecu with a new intake and turboback exhaust, then I'll surely feel a significant boost in power. But then I'll get used to it, and want even more? Is it an endless quest, and therefore should I not even start?

Like someone else said...its all of the above.

You will start to get used to the power...and you will loose that "shock" factor. Also going from 75 to 100 degrees is a huge jump. ALL engines like colder air. Colder air is more dense...so your able to pack in more air molecules into a given area when its colder...thus giving more power. Also since it was hotter you may be getting some heat soak on your intercooler and making the air going into the engine even hotter. That is just part of cars when it gets hot. They get slower.

Just get the Cobb SRI (Short ram intake) for $175. Its a very cheap mod for the huge amount of power it will give you. Some dynos have said it gives 20 hp/tq (i believe it). Go with that, its cheap, easy to install, and won't potentially mess anything up on your car. Then while your happy with that new power just read around the on forums...get smarter when it comes to mods so you can make a more educated decision in what to spend your money on...i.e. NOT buying the cobb AccessPORT (ive only seen it do good things when you are running stage 2 + FMIC).

I can't ever seem to shake the mod bug. Whenever you can make your car faster, it will always seem more average than it is. Good luck!

don't even start modding it. very expensive with minimal gains on this car. I would wait a few years like maybe 6 years when your warranty runs out and then maybe there might be more advancements in modding this.

Take a few turns at an AutoX. Then start doing suspension upgrades. The feeling of "fast" will last longer. Your not gonna get used to pushing the car to its lateral limits vs just pressing on the gas after a few days.

i read a/c is -20hp, and i believe it so

A week? what the F is this world coming to. Give it a damn chance man. This car is like a women; some days it awesome and super fast and fun to drive, then others its like...I don't feel like performing today leave me alone. I've had mine for about 3 months now and at least once a week ill be drivng around and it will just surprise the heck outta me with how fast it'll move.

100 is hot and when I drive my car in that heat it feels slow as crap, its just heat= extra bad for turbos and power.

Good Day
Bought a new 78 Suzuki 750, $2,400 went 12.90's, spent 1 yr and $15k IT WENT 8.9'S. Sold for $3K

Bought 86 gGSX1100, WENT 9.9 STOCK, spent 1 yr, $8 k latter went 8.90's sold $1,200 blown moter.

Bought 89 GSXR 1100, went 9.70's stock $27K latter went 7.90's
sold for $7K

If these are quarter mile you're waaaaaay off on the stock times unless you weigh 7 lbs suited up and ran a strip on the moon.

My buddy Rick's 2007 ZX14 strapped with a pro rider ran 9.70 @ 149mph with a bit over 180hp and an airshifter.

Most air/oil cooled 1100s from the GSXR line in the 80s ran 115-120hp.

thank you for all the advice so far. it seems the cobb sri is the first step i should take.

can you describe to me:

1. how loud is the cobb sri
2. is the sound annoying or not
3. is the sound mostly noticeable above a certain rpm?
4. does the cobb sri actually improve acceleration, or is it mostly the sound that makes it feel faster?

i've seen some youtube videos of ms3 with the cobb sri, but it's still hard to judge based on those poor quality audio.

Sometimes I think the car is surprised that I want to play. I also wonder if the ECU starts to dumb down the performance if you don't get on it.

Or I'm just imagining all of this... :)

1. the cobb sri is only loud when you put your foot in it
2. under most driving conditions you wont know its there
3. the sound is directly related to throttle not rpm
4. yes, you can definitely feel the 10-20hp it adds.

For the topic, I still feel my car is DAMN fast every time i drive it. i owm the car for 1 and half yr already

i'm not going to deny that it can get expensive, but minimal gains? have you been following the boards? Intake, BOV, TBE, FMIC will put you at pretty substantial gains, than of course you could tune...get a boost controller, etc.

on another note -- id have 2 say i know my car is still fast, but it just doesnt seem as fast 2 me as it did wen i first got it -- good thing ive got some mods waiting 2 b installed..hopefully ill have those done soon...

Agree 100% with every answer.

If you have an addictive personality, don't mod, you will never stop. If you can be happy with one or two mods, DO IT!! Get the Cobb SRI, if you don't like it, sell it on the forums. Or better yet, buy the street-unit special red and black edition, then trade me for my blue one!!

Are you kidding me? (smash)
As for warranty you gotta know what you're getting yourself into when modding. You gotta pay to play.
