cobb access port question

No one really has it yet...shoudl hear more reviews tonight. I think most people are getting it int he mail today/this afternoon

I'm sure people will hook it up, reflash, drive for 30 minutes, and post their impressions without giving the ECU time to "re-learn".

this really sucks, i was really excited about this. I havnt seen any of these posts u mention where people are actually happy.

People have to actually receive the AP before they can post their impressions.

Even after they receive it, it may take several days of driving in various conditions before anyone can offer a really good evaluation.

If you really want to know how good the AP is, wait about a month. By that time, enough people will have tested it on different cars (mods), and in different conditions.

lol@ the test dummies for the AP (lol2)

I'm laughing but I will most likely get it regardless when funds are available.

Ok my problems have been solved. Replaced spark plugs and gapped to .028. Recommend anyone getting the AP to check their plugs out and possibly replace...or anyone for that matter. No idea how my Iridium plugs went bad so quick (19k). Possibly running my mods without tuning? I ran a hybrid BOV for like 2 weeks? Either way...check them out. I bought the cheapest plugs they had at Autozone just incase it dindt work out...best $16 so far, lol

My original problem was stuttering at WOT in 4k+ range..apparenly it was my plugs because I am running that same map now with no problems. Boost seems right on target and in line with what the map notes say.

we all know how rich these cars run.

were the plugs super black? that indicates you were running rich.

This was the only questionable plug really. I'm no expert at plugs but some people said it looked like it was running lean (cylinder 3).

yeah that looks like it was running REALLY lean... of course I am used to looking at 2 stroke plugs. definitely not rich though.

(two stroke plugs are always blacker, because they burn oil too)

But yeah, not sure why it is....fuel related (running my mods w/o tuning)? I run richer with the AP than I do stock map. I guess that's safer and apparently they ran it a little on the rich side because they found that there wasn't much/any power to be had by making it a little leaner. And they are conservative of course.

yeah I saw your videos. it probably was mostly due to the correct gapping of the plugs causing a more consistent spark across all cylinders. if I were you, I would pull the plugs after about 200 miles and send pictures of all of them with labels (cylinder #s) to cobb and see if they think anything is up. did you take pictures of the other 3 you pulled?

aaron glad you got lined out man!! I just got my AP sitting right in front of me. I am having a hard deciding not to send it back and get BC coil overs instead. Stage one guys. is it really worth it? This is coming from a former Subaru AP user. How about you aaron. Was it worth it man? All the negative info has me questioning it. I havent heard many stage 1 guys say it made much of a difference or it was even stronger lol.

Hey, it has a 30 day day satisfaction guarantee...what are you waiting on, try it out! One thing to keep in mind, its only been out a week, so it's not going to be perfect probably. With the Subarus...it's been out for a long time and they have made lots of tweaks in the meantime. A firmware update should already be out soon.

Gimme a lil more time driving it before I give impressions, ive been so cautious with it so far and just checking boost levels/AFRs/ etc that I havn't really paid attention to if its any faster or how it drives. It's a lot smoother than stock... With intake and TBE it was kind of like an on/off switch with boost sometimes. It's not OMG when you install it (power wise), but it does have tons of other cool features too.

BTW I am going to the dyno june 7...Don't know if it's smart/realistic to do a run stock...flash to stage 2 and then dyno again though. Since the computer has to learn fuel trims etc.

4 looks discolored, although it might just be the lighting.

also, I would dyno it with the stage 2 map on, and then dyno stock. that way you get stage 2 with all the learning. actually I'd go stage 2, stock, stage 2 again... that way you can see if the learning thing is really happening, or if it is bullcrap.

aaronc7 had originally started some threads and we worked with him to figure out what mechanical problems were affecting his car. I would like to thank him for his patience, and I suggest that you do not run more than 15,000 miles on our spark plugs, especially since the car is running slightly higher boost levels. Even iridium or platinum plugs do not last long IMO. I would highly suggest you make this part of your standard maintenance procedures.

Please understand that your MS3 vehicles needs to be properly maintained for the AccessPORT (AP) calibrations to perform properly. Tuning your vehicle is not going to fix a mechanical problem. I would like to spend some time this week composing a document that is to go with EVERY MS3 AP. The document should read "READ THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS DEVICE TO YOUR VEHICLE" and it should cover every TSB that Mazda has released to date, a maintenance list reviewing what should have been done to this vehicle in order to properly maintain it BEFORE you can install the AccessPORT, and a list of possible diagnosing procedures to help determine what mechanical problem the vehicle may be suffering from. I would like to get the original .pdf TSBs so we can host them on our website. This may take me more than a week to complete due to the time it will take me to track down the official TSBs and factory service manual. Although, I will be sure to post the document for all MS3 owners to read and educate themselves. Please let me know if you can think of anything that we should add to this document.

On another note, please understand that you can ruin your coils by overdriving them if you try to operate them with poor or bad spark plugs. Please be aware that this may be a consequence of running the car with poor plugs for a long duration.

As for shipping us your labeled spark plugs:

I will be able to access the findings and post what we suggest after some additional sets are sent to us. Would you like a free Cobb hat for your offerings? They are actual nice IMO. If so, please e-mail me your shipping address, christian@cobbtuning.com This offer is good to the first 5 people that can send me their used stock plugs with some information as to what fuel you were using, what boost levels, what mileage is on them, and what cylinders they are from. 2 down.

Thanks,

Take care,
Christian.

Where are you getting your dyno done? Is it a dyno day type of thing or are you just going by yourself. If it's a dyno day I may just have to drive up to Daytona.
