How To: Install an Autometer Boost Guage

and just FYI guys, i have a great line to hook up the dimmer switch to, it would be the radio "switched power wire"...in the radio harness..works very well.

ok man..do you have a manual or electric?
To be honest I dont have a clue. The guy that owned the car before me had it on. I noticed it had stopped reading boost after I switched intake mani's.

hmm...ok, well is there a hose going to the back of the guage??
does it read ANYTHING?

this is kinda off subject i installed my wbo2 and wired it to my radio ground and power and now my parking lights, dash lights dont work i also wire my boost guage to the dimmer switch any advice??

did you do the install w/out disconnecting the battery? you could have popped a fuse.

No i disconnected it but i think i found where my problem is and it has nothing to do with the wbo2 i was trying to find a wire behind my A/C panel and there is a short somewhere gonna fix it today but thanks for the help

thanx a lot everything went fine.
im concerned that my vacuum is reading 15 in tho.
ive heard most people are at like 20ish.
anyone know why this would be the case?

Which wires?

...To get the gauge lights to work with the dimmer switch, hook the gauge up to POWER and DIMMER. The dimmer switch outputs 11-12v in the "dimmest" setting and 1-2v in the "brightest" setting. As we all know, electricity flows from high to low voltage, so hooking up the lights to 12v and dimmer will have the aftermarket gauges dim in the same fashion as the stock gauges.

I have a quick question about the wiring of the Autometer boost gauge:
So tap the gauge's white wire into the dimmer switch's green wire w/ black stripe? And then tap the gauge's red wire where? Should this red wire be hooked up to switched power, or constant power?

Thanks in advance!

my power wire is generally hooked to my switched power..only because i like to have the guage light up w/ my lights on.. that's it.

One year bump!

i read through this thread and am still a little confused over the power wiring (electrical stuff scares me!). so my gauge comes with white(power) and black (ground) wires. i want to use the dimmer switch but still do not get which wire i should tap into for each. the green one or the white one for power? and where should i ground it?

Is there a better way to enable the dimmer function on the gauge or should another wire tap be used like this?
green to gauge and red from wire tap on green/black wire to wire tap on white line?

I'm not sure I understand the diagram you've got and have yet to wire mine in. Could you explain a little more please?

Green/black, black, and white represent the wires of the the dimmer. The red block is a wire tap and it has a green wire tapping into the green/black wire. that little green wire goes to the gauge and provides power. In addition, there is a red wire sharing the wiretap with the green wire. The red wire taps in to the white wire using a wire tap. I did not do this when I installed my gauge, but I was trying to see if I did that; would that allow the gauge to dim with the original gauge cluster.

If you want the dimmer to work on the gauge just tap one wire to the Green/black and the other to the white and you are done!

quick question probly should know this answer already but will the gauge ever reach boost numbers if i dont have a turbo? All i get now is a gauge that goes to zero and flutters. Just wondering if its an install mistake or something?
