What have you done to your MSP today?

lol u would and whats your take on this tony http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

well. i read that a long time ago, and didnt know what to think. then i went to gm and they were reving the s*** out of the cavaliers/gm cars right off the assembly line and told me almost the same exact thing they did.

nothing he says doesnt make sense. so i think its a valid article, it makes sense to me. and starting off with dino oil and changing it a few times quickly is a good idea too with things wearing in and all.

however im not an engine builder so its just my opinion. but hes backed his info up with pics. more than most people would do.

Washed, Polished, and Waxed the MSP since it was nice out!

^^ that's freakin shiny. looks good

Thanks! When i bought the car about a month ago the paint was in pretty bad condition.. looked like someone had taken a brillo pad and just scratched the hell out of the whole car. Spent about 10 hours with a buffer and polishing compound and came out with that result. Couldn't be happier

Looks good man, just one thing, tires look like they are too small, are you sure they are the right size? side walls look way to small for a msp.. other than that.. wicked awesome buff job!

Yeah im pretty sure the tires are small... they were brand new and on the car when i bought it... i have found all kinds of things the guy did wrong on the car so it wouldn't surprise me if they were the wrong size. I pretty much saved this car from certain death.

when i went to the corvette factory they had a dyno at the end of the line and they were taking every car across it. i know this cause they were picking kids out of the group to ride in the cars. they said if the car was not working properly they would roll it over here and a GM mechanic would work on it.

That plug is the primary o2 sensor. Its best to remove it with an 02 socket. You need to remove the heat shield to get to the manifold. You have an aluminum head so make sure you dont overtighen the mani bolts. If u ask how to get to the middle 3 bottom bolts on the mani, you have to be creative, they are a pain.

Check for black spots on the head, thats a good sign theres a leak on the turbo manifold. Your gasket could be leaky too. The MSP is known also for having mani bolts missing. They just take a vacation at some point.

the msp has some sensors that tick really loud on the manifold, it could be one of those.

Valve tick can be a few things, and usually requires opening the head so u dont want to do that. An easy fix is make sure ur oil isnt low.

ah ok, i have been trying to get the damn thing off for a while now because i want to polish it. I will definately check for the black spots and hopefully it is a missing bolt that I can just replace. As far as the tick, i may try to seafoam by putting through pcv line and putting it in the oil, might just need a good cleaning 36,000 miles and I have no idea the level of care the previous owner gave to the car, I have only had it four months. I sure hope my oil isnt low, i just did a change less than a week ago. How hard is a gasket replacement? If I cannot find a reason for the valve ping through seafoaming or by having low oil, how hard is it to open the head?

here u go. lucky for j00 my wires are blue.

not by choice though.

nah, i guess it is stock, mazda just did a good job of keeping the lines clean I guess. i did not like the brass bar above the connectors though, that was a b**** to get off

so i just washed the car. i have to say, this car by far, has THE WORST paint job i have ever experienced. I have a million chips in the paint. even my cavalier who lasted me 7 years didnt have as many chips and i drove it EVERY DAY

I have the same prob, this is bad for me though because I obsess about my cars paint (complete hand wax (3 coats) every other weekend)) I am getting a respray with about three coats of clear. after that I am gonna get the 3M protective cover for the hood, front bumper and side mirrors. It is a little pricey (500 altogether for professional installation with a warranty) or about 300 for film only) but it is nothing compared to having to look at paint chips all the time.

My paint is the same... lots of chips and nicks on the front. Makes me sad hah

so come to find the leaky manifold is due to a broken bolt, and i have a whistling sound coming from the TB or close to it but it's only when my foot isn't on the gas though and i have mad valve tick, what else is gonna happen to this damn car, other than that, I did a 4 1/2 drive to ATL yesterday so all the GA people, my car is here! the drive went real smooth and every ricer tried to race me, it was very hard but i resisted, i have more class now after my past encounters :)

broken as in... broken off in teh head?

i had that problem once.

yeah, in the head, any special trick you used on getting it out?

pulled the mani off and used vice grips and turned veddy slow.

mind u, the mazda tech did it. I heard this awful rattle one day after replacing the screeching turbo at the dealer. heatsheld was fine, so i took it off and there falls out a nut and stud piece. so i brought it to the dealer and we confronted the "master tech". He said he didnt do it of course, i asked if he took the manifold off to replace the turbo, he said no. I said he was full of s*** cause thats impossible and he just walked out. me and the service guy laughed till i realized i had to fix it myself now, but he said he will take care of me and it wont void the warranty if i do it myself.
