So wouldn't that make it much easier for McCain to reject him and his support?

ummmm...he's dead. So it makes it easy for McCain to reject pretty much anything he says.

With all his flaws, I kinda liked Mitt Romney mostly for his business savvy. But he's out too. I was interested in seeing an Obama presidency and it did hold a lot of promise but unless a miracle happens, this incident is bad for him. If he's elected, I'll come and eat my crow.

Perhaps Super Stretch was referring to McCains acceptance of Falwells support before he died. McCain had it right during the 2000 campaign but after losing he pandered to the religious right and pronounced he was wrong about Falwell earlier and now welcomed his support. Falwell apologized way too much and words his rang shallow with all but those who are enamored with him. No doubt he changed his tune often to keep those "love gifts" and university donations coming. But a leopard does not lose its spots.

This incident as you call it is only bad in the minds of those who are not going to vote for him or the talking head idiots that keep on discussing it like it matters.

My being a conservative has nothing to do with it. Its a matter of principle.

I would like to believe that...but lets take a look at some of "Falwell's Principles". He is a huge influence in your life and he a a bigot. My original comment stands.

(I still respect you immensely)

You know as long as political threads keep popping up here, it is always going to be basically me and Donas on the right, and everyone else on the left.

We're never going to agree with each other, and we're always going to try to prove and justify our way of thinking....

...so maybe we should draft up a peace treaty. (usa)

See thats where you're wrong. He's not a huge influence in my life. I don't attend his Church. I chose to attend LU because I wanted to attend school in a Christian environment. I respect the man for not being afraid to speak his mind and being able to apologize when he crosses the line. I also respect all the good things he's done for a lot of people of all races. But I do realize that the is a former racist and segregationist who for the most part changed his ways and has admitted to things he's done in his past. Heck , there was a time when interracial dating was a grey area at LU but I met my wife there.

The 3 people with the biggest influence on my life are Jesus Christ, my wife, and my parents (who are Democrats who hate Bush and don't particularly like Jerry Falwell either)

The last thing my dad said to me when he dropped me off at LU was: Be open to new ideas son, but know what you believe and why you believe it.

I respect you as well Killer. Just because we disagree, doesn't mean that my
P5 won't walk all over your MS6......through the twisties........if your handbrake was on.

McCain supporters would have every right to question McCain's choice to associate with a man who he once referenced as "an agent of intolerance" and it would be up to McCain to answer them. You clearly don't like Falwell and its your perogative to do so. But you're missing the entire point as it relates to Obama:

McCain didn't donate thousands of dollars, worship at Falwells church for 20+ years, call Falwell and uncle, spiritual advisor or anything of the sort. Not everyone on the "religious right" as bad as you think they are the same way not every black church teaches hatred of whites and Jews (I know, I attended one when I lived in Atlanta).

It's a long time till election day, and things can still change but I'll willing to strongly bet that this incident has damaged Obama's message irreparably and a lot of people who thought he was different and might have been inclined to vote for him just for his promise of healing racial and political divides (I have to admit despite social issues, I had not ruled it out of my mind if I was able to vote) will be less inclined to do so now.

I'm at peace with my fellow forum members. I'm just jealous I can't vote (even if some on here are happy I can't cast a ballot). :)

You are a good egg too. We may be different but we are all AMERICANS who care alot about our countries. (usa)

I cant imagine not caring.

Yeah, I don't really consider myself to be a left winger or a Democrat. That's why for me, this is a turning point in my feelings for a candidate (I support Obama). I think that putting the label of repub or dem on a person is just plain out of date with the current political climate.

When things start to get a bit petty and people attack each other, that's why it's safe to go back to the old party affiliation attacks.

I had an ex (who was involved in politics) ask me if I would ever vote for a female as president. Honestly, I was really shocked that after knowing me for years, she would even ask that as if I would even for a second say no. It's like asking a black guy if he would vote for anyone other than a black candidate. IMO, this is one of the first elections where people can openly break free from that mold and go for what's good and real for everyone.

Oh, and I know, I should have slapped her for asking me that, right?? (fuoops)

No worries here Joe; even though we don't always see eye-to-eye, I can respect anyone that can defend their point of view without be-littling the opposition. When everyone is on the same side of the fence, then we all need to be worried. (group)

Yeah...that doesn't make her look so good. Of course, I thought it was the job of all polticians to periodically lie and make false promises.

Politician, which of course in Germany means, a two faced liar!
(laugh)

The thing that destroys her credibility is the fact that she has multiple chances to tell the truth. I'd give her a pass for embellishing what took place 12 years ago in order to make herself look better... but when a reporter mentioned the fact that her story had been questioned, she stuck to her guns instead of coming clean.

I'm sorry but... you're going to remember being shot at. There's no gray area there. Clearly the footage shows she was as safe as can be... with plenty of armed forces to protect her.

The fact that she blatantly lied not once but twice in order to make herself look better says something about her character. The fact that she was willing to throw the US military under the bus in order to do so is downright disgraceful.

This thread has been mostly about Obama. Can anyone state why they would vote for Clinton? I haven't really heard any real views as to why they would support her. I know somebody mentioned her health care ideas....but what else is there?

IMO, I wouldn't vote for her as a leader of anything, let alone the presidency.

Come on people, support your candidate! (protest)

Side-note #2... I just saw The adventures of Pluto Nash last night (Horrible movie!) In it, there is a shot of Eddie Murphy looking at money... The picture of the president on it? Hillary! Too ironic....

If anyone is just jumping in on this thread, I suggest you read posts 133/143.
