In the last month or so, there have been many death from Street Racing in Connecticut. A few of the local speed and performance shops have gotten together to form a rally in protest of the state of Connecticut to get us a drag strip in CT. They are looking for people with cars to come up to CT's Capital to Rally In protest. This will be a peaceful protest with no burnouts or reckless actions. We need to show the state that we care about driver safety and we respect the roads. Anyone who wishes to participate please call the number below of sign up at the website, also below. We need your support.

Yeah we're trying to get it to reopen or, theres word that Mohegan Sun may open a new one for us...

The Colchester strip is private property owned by Consumer Reports.. You wont' get that reopened.

The Mohegan rumor has been going around since '04. Plainfield approved the track, but then the deal fell through... Sort of like what happened with the Utopia movie studio in Preston.

Well I hope it moves forward.
I would love something besides a drag strip or dirt oval

Right but this time people are doing something about it, and this protest will be happening in April. There are already over 1000 cars that are going to drive to the capital for this.

that's pretty cool, but what is the state legislature going to do? drag strips are usually owned by private enterprise rather than the state. I'm just trying to play devil's advocate for you folks..

I'm all for this plan. As long as I can't hear the strip from my backyard, I don't care where they put it.

Massachusetts doesn't have a drag strip (that I'm aware of) and we don't have a street racing issue. I highly doubt a drag strip will reduce the number of fatalities caused by street racing. I think it will just increase the problem in whatever area the strip resides.

If you really want to reduce fatalities, lobby for better driver education and stricter laws against street racing (increased jail time, crushing cars, etc).

mass is closer to lebannon valley and driver education wouldn't do anything LOL I amnot
saying a track will get rid of street racing I'm just saying it would lessen the number of people that street race

(uhm) we just lost two teenagers last month/dec to street racing down near the attleboro/ri line and one last month in the lowel area! i think there's a lot more street racing going on then we think

Yes I'm sure it does occur...but providing an outlet for racing instead of proper driver's ed to 16 year olds will provide better results.

Just showing a kid up close a car that has hit a telephone pole at just 35mph should make them think twice about driving 85mph on a back road...more so if the interior of the car is soaked in blood and has been sitting in the sun all afternoon. In fact, take them to a junk yard full of said cars so they can't say "That won't happen to me".

Honestly, I don't give two s**** about kids that die street racing...I do however have sympathy for innocent bystanders that are affected by their reckless behavior.

Right, if someone goes out and street races, it's their own faut if they get hurt or die, but we should be worrying about the drivers who are comming home late at night from working 3rd shitfts or even going to work on 1st shift who get hit by kids racing there cars.

you have epping for all of the boston people and LVD for the western massers. and you do have street racing it's just not in the news as much.

my vote is to take a small airstrip and convert that to a drag strip. planes are loud so people typically don't live near them and they can probably make more money by shutting down 1 strip 2 nights/week than they would by letting planes fly. i'm sure it'd have to be more of a street car only track, i.e. no pro events cause those cars are crazy loud, but it'd at least work. i vote for ellington airport :)

Dont forget about LimeRock, it's a road race track in the upper north west corner of CT....

Oh, I know. Check the thread on the Mazda Corral we have planned again for this year. Only 460 miles round trip from here.
