Where do you work and how much do you make?

I was thinking the same thing but I wanted to keep it to myself...Im a SGT E-5 and to be making 50 g's plus is crazy for lower enlisted, not even CPT's make that in a year...But who knows, im not gunna argue but good point

check your LES bro, that figure was taken straight off my DEC LES YTD entitlements. i am also an E-5. i am deployed this year so i got a bit more with tax free and hazard duty pay for 5 months and family sep pay for 4. but even without the extras, my base pay is 2171/mo + 1119/mo for housing + 400/mo sea pay (i get alot beacause ive been at sea for 4 years) x 12 = $44,280.

like i said, i made more because i was deployed, but i have also been deployed 4 out of the 6 years i have been in. THAT is why i am leaving. the money/benefits are good, but the time away from family is not worth it to me any more. if i reenlisted right now, i could get over $70,000 bonus tax free. thats half up front and the rest paid once a year over the following 6. money is NOT everything, although it is nice.

it is encouraging to see others making pretty good money out there, keep it going!

and you drive a Protege wagon.(first)

I make really close to 6 figures, and dive an MSP. (shrug)

I also drive a beater 1986 Corolla, complete with crank windows, rust, nearly 200k miles on the clock, and a weird smell.

How much money you make does not determine what car you drive. I may not have the nicest car, but I am not in debt nearly as mush as people making about the same as me, and I choose not to buy brand new vehicles. I have an 06' Suzuki Grand Vitara, an 03' Mazda MSP (okay, it does have about $10K into it), and a 86' Toyota Corolla.

I may not drive the cars to match my salary, but I have a big house with land, lot's of free spending money, money saved in the bank, I can buy mods whenever I want, and no financial stress. People decide to spend their money in different ways.

Regional Sales Manager
$45,000 salary
$XX,000 in bonuses (anywhere from 30-40 usually)
Full Beni package (health, dental, vision, 401k, etc.) for my family and I (Company pays all of it)
Company Vehicle
$24,000 annual spending account (for food, entertainment, clothes, rent, etc. etc.)

My company takes very good care of me. I usually don't even come close to using the whole $2000/month spending account though.

Anyway, as far as Uncle Sam is concerned, I made -$50k this year.

That's pretty damn good! Your money is easily worth twice as much as mine is living in CT so that makes it even better. If you ever want a good laugh, go to realtor.com and see how much one can buy for X in your neck of the woods vs the pure insanity of CT. Even in a down market, the houses here easily cost 2x that (if not more) than they do in even a nice area down south (like Austin, Raleigh or Knoxville) Most people will say "but you make more so it's all relative." That's sometimes true but can also be a crock. All I know is, it looks like you have the best of both worlds down there. (as long as you don't mind living in TN that is) I guess I like living outside of NYC so... I should stop complaining

Yup, I love living in TN. The scenery is amazing, housing is very cheap, utilities are a joke compared to what I payed down home in FL, and everyone is so nice, and not in so much of a hurry.

Living near Knoxville makes it not so bad being in the country though, I'm sure if I lived out in the middle of nowhere it would be different.

That's where I'm moving as soon as I can sell my house. I love it up there, and it's close to the dragon ;)

Hell why not... I'm still in school and thus have a current job but I've just accepted a full time position for when I've graduated:

Age: 21 (22 in a week)

Current:
Assistant Project Manager/General Engineer
US Navy, Norfolk, VA
about $30,000/yr (GS5)

It's not bad pay for not having a degree yet but the job is pretty boring and even though it involves engineering it isn't my field of study and it's more project management than design and research.

Future (I start 30 June 2008):
Aerospace Engineer
GE - Aviation, Airfoils Division, Cincinnati, OH
$58,600/yr w/ $5000 signing bonus, full medical, dental, etc. and more company benefits than you can shake a stick at!

I'm 33, work as a sys admin in the DC area, but I also have some other financial dealings overseas and I make enough to have pay off my condo in 3 years. I'm comfortable :) I do other stuff with my money, but it's not something I do to brag about... I'm 'frugal' which is why I have a Civic, an 8 yearold truck, and an 16 yearold Miada. Sure I can afford to get a new flashy Euro sedan, but my money is better spent elsewhere.
