Prosport Gauge Wiring Question - Auto Headlights

I installed a Prosport electronic boost gauge today. It works great but there is an odd interaction with the automatic headlights. What I'm seeing is that if I operate the headlights fully manual, everything works great. The gauge is white when the lights are off and then go to amber when the headlights are on. The same thing happens if I am in the sun and have the headlights on full auto. The light is white. If I cover the sensor for the headlights, the lights come on and the gauge goes to amber. All good...

Here is the problem..

When it's dark and the lights come on as soon as the ignition fires, the gauge stays white. It does not ever go to amber. Here is some additional information:

- When it's in this state, turning the lights off and then back on manually leaves it white.

- It keeps doing this even if I shut off the headlights and the car and then restart the car.

- If I shutoff the headlights and the car and wait approx. 10 seconds, everything goes back to "normal".

So there seems to be some kind of odd sequence on this and some type of memory on the "power" to the parking lights.

I have this wired at the interior fuse panel using "Add a Fuse" as follows:

Red Power - Ignition
White - ACC (lighter)
Orange - left parking lights

Also note that I've seen all kinds of wacky crap with the automatic headlights on the car anyway. For example, if I start driving when it's dark and then it gets light, they almost never seem to go off, etc.

As a side note, this gauge is awesome and the folks at Prosport really got this to me fast...

Thanks!

hmm i think you need to move that +12V power to a constant +12V source instead of just ignition. I use an ignition +12V where youre using the Cig Lighter for Acc.

Not sure I follow you here. I have it set according to the manual with:

White - ACC
Orange - Parking Lamp
Red - Ignition

The gauge works fine. with a single startup "dance" and accurate readings. One thing I did notice is that ACC actually kicks twice during startup. It's on when you turn the key to ACC but then goes off during ignition and then back on again when it's started. Are you saying that because white is on that circuit that this is confusing things and causing the gauge to ignore the signal from orange in some cases? If so, then what about my running red/white off the same (constant) source?

Thanks

Ok - I tried putting power and white on the constant ignition 12V and leaving orange on the parking lights. No luck. Again, it works great if you run the headlights manually. It just gets confused by the automatic headlights when they are ON when the ignition is fired-up.

Wow, that is very odd. I dont exhibit these problems at all and my headlights are set to auto on. Where are you tapping the parking light power from?

I've got it on the left parking light on the fuse panel using an "Add a Fuse". I sent something over to Prosport to see what they think...

Another question - Do you see any other odd stuff with your lights? Mine dont go off automatically when it gets sunny in the morning... :)

They all do that. This seems to be some software engineer's idea of how it is supposed to work. If the auto lights have seen darkness for more that a few minutes, it won't shut off until it has seen light for about 20 minutes. It eventually goes off.

yeah i've tried wiring up my prosport today and no luck.. but i think i messed someting up, i didnt check if there was constant power to the lighter so maybe i just wired it up a big weird. idk. eaither way i'm gonna do the wiring all over tomorrow after work and see whats up. i know how to do its just patience is what i lack (doh)
i'll let you know how i wired everything up on my ms3.
btw: worst instructions ever lol... great product tho.

Not on mine. It's not proven to be a big deal. I did make one more attempt several weeks ago to wire the amber into a source I was 100% positive was controlled only when the headlights were on. Same results.

What hardware does the Prosport Amber Electronic Boost Gauge come with?

Comes with the gauge, a small gauge pod/cup, silicone tubing, electronic pressure sensor, wiring harnesses (one from the sensor to the gauge and one from the gauge to your power source). The one wiring harness to go to your power source is very short (about 8") and is actually worthless unless you add wire to it. It also comes with a small glare shield hood, mounting hardware, air filter, and that's about it...
