It was going to happen sooner or later

74 in a 50. The cop was real cool about it, too, because I know I was going faster...I was about to shift into fifth and I was way past 4500 on the tach. I was on my way to work, wide open access road, decide to just do a nice third gear pull, shifted into fourth, and decided why not pull to fifth? Cop was up on the highway running laser, saw me, pegged me, and just took the exit ramp down to get me. He wasn't an ass about it or anything. Just asked me to be a bit more careful and slow it down. He also said I had a nice car, and he would hate to see it wrecked.

I'm not gonna fight it, I'm oneof those personal responsibility types, and I'll pay for my actions. Its a steep ticket, but I can just do probation, go three months in the city without getting another ticket, and it all goes away, no insurance hike or anything.

Welp, might start looking for a nice Valentine now, lol.

actually, you should definitely go to court for this. the prosecutor will always offer you a ticket with fewer points if you pay a higher fee. don't worry about doing the honorable thing here, cause they're just out to get your money...^_^; also, if he used a laser, then the valentine would just be a fancy ticket announcer, cause as soon as it detects it, you're already screwed...=/ radar detectors are only effective for radar, since it allows you to detect emissions from the gun as it's being used on other targets. with a laser, it doesn't randomly irradiate, so the only way to really detect it is to be hit by it...and that's just bad news...^_^;

Points? What are points? Oh you mean those things we don't get in Texas? Its not that big of a deal really, its gonna be maybe 150-200 bucks all said and done. Hell, whenI got a 95 in a 60, it was only $315. Thats what I love about Texas, we can just pay cash to make it all go away. I've done it before, I'll do it again. You gotta pay to play.

Funny story bout that actually. Radio show I listen to religiously down here has a lawyer on every Friday. He's an entertainment lawyer (so a REAL expensive baby sitter), but he gives out legal advice on Fridays. One day he was on, explaining how in Texas, there is technically no speed limit, and the argument will hold up in court if you explain it right. I was trying to listen, but this chick who sits next to me at work who talks about five decibles louder than one of those dB drag cars wouldn't shut the hell up, so I couldn't hear the explination. Booo!

But yeah. I've been given, in my driving time, six tickets. The only one that shows up on my insurance record and driving record is the one I got in Missouri. My insurance hasn't gone up for any other ticket I've gotten in the state of Texas.

oh wow...time to move to texas! does your insurance not go up from tickets?

Just FYI if you have State Farm after a few years of good driving (no wrecks) tickets will no longer impact your premium, and that is in Georgia where tickets normally do impact your premium.

i'm in NJ, and our insurance here takes every chance it gets to screw you over. there are a few companies who make provisions to be nicer, but in general, it's a real pain in the arse. on the bright side, though, i had already been planning to move next summer, and austin was already at the top of my list of places to consider...this just makes it all that much easier...=D

oh, and i bet you could google up all you needed to know about getting out of the ticket, sierra...ah the beauties of the internet...=d

I know the basics of getting out of a ticket, you know, show up, was the gun calibrated, could you have made a mistake, blah blah blah. This was as acutal legal reason why there was no speed limit. I think it is cities have speed limits but the state doesn't or something like that. I'll have to see what I can find out.

I saw something on the news about the tollway that runs from dowtown Dallas to Frisco where it said that if you get a ticket for speeding you can fight it and win because TexDot didn't do some study they were supposed to do when they set the speed limit.

I don't know if that's what the guy was talking about but it's still interesting.

news story about it

It's nice to see someone on here man up and accept punishment for their own voluntary actions for a change. Most speeding ticket threads are all venom towards the cop, even when the person caught was well aware that they were speeding.

try 70 in a 35. Almost was arrested, but the cop dropped it to 64. In hawaii, 30 over lands you a night in jail.

88 in a 40... :'(
it was stupid, but my friend had just gotten his wrx, and I was in my integra, and he rolled up next to me and gunned it and I followed suit... atleast I started to pass him when my radar detector started going off.

I was really going like 115 or so, but I slammed on my brakes.

the cop changed it to where the ticket said iw as only going 24 over, so I could still take def driving and also not have it on my record.

Cool cop, but he was pretty mad.

This was very late at night on a not busy street, I wouldnt have done it at any other time.
stilldumb though.

I think I got the record...... 112 in a 20 lol the day i got my license I was like YEAH Time to rip my moms cavalier haha. That was around a cvorner too. I should have lost my license but he just gave me a fine and I lost all but 1 of my points. After all I JUST got my license I at least needed a good warning not just a complete **** over. I don't speed anymore at all, its dumb...... well except on the freeway.......... :p

you obviously don't know much about the V1. Even lasers reflect off targets and the V1 is very very sensitive. On the other hand, in this case, with an empty road, he still woulda been screwed

that's where veil comes into play. Use it with an ultra-sensitive unit like the V1 and it gives you an extra few seconds even if you're alone on the road http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=10056

Disclaimer - I have never used the product, nor do I intend to for a while, however I have heard a lot of good things about it from a lot of independent reviews and scientific testing. If I wasn't lazy, I'd look for the link to the tests

yes, the V1 is sensitive, but you're seriously taking a gamble if you are counting on the cop's laser reflections to warn you in time. i have a friend who runs with the V1 and a laser jammer, and he tells me that he's not gotten any forewarning on laser...which is why he ended up getting the jammer.

veil helps to give you a bit of warning.... when the cop could usually get you at, say, 1000 yds, he now now only get you at 700 yds... that allows for some reaction time

not trying to start a debate, just a suggestion
