Honda Civic MUGEN Si set for October release in the U.S.!

I previously broke down the price if you will look back to the previous page. The upgrades are worth the price, all Mugen named items, and limited availability aside.

The upgrades are worth the price compaired to what? Why would I pay $8,000+ more for something that says "Mugen"? Holy crap. Lets take the MSP as a comparison.

Protege price $11k
msp price $16k, (I worked at a dealer that's what they both cost)

msp...
turbo kit, body kit, rims, suspension, interior, rare, stereo, etc. That's a bargin. What else could you buy for comparison at that price? nothing even close to new!

I'm sorry, but with the competition (MS3, SRT4, GTI w/limited editions, EVO, STI), or a civic si that you can customize any way you want...it doesn't make sense to buy that car for $30,000. S&*$, a $30k Civic even sounds stupid. People will buy them, yes, but they will get mocked and laughed at.

you say "Mugen", I say ppptttthhhhssssssss, please... (I'll take 3 MSP's for the same price thank you very much)

No, the parts could say Wal-Mart for all I care, they're legit upgrades that you would pay for no matter what the brand is. Now if you're planning on buying these very upgrades when you buy the stock car, why not get them included in the price to save you some time and be able to finance them?

This is exactly what I'm trying to point out here. The Protege is stock, while the MSP came with upgrades for a higher price. Why buy a stock Protege and do the upgrades yourself, when you can buy a MSP with all the parts you want already installed? Get it?

It's not a $30k Civic, It's a $23k Civic Si with $6k worth of upgrades. Just like the MSP is a $11k Protege with $5k worth of upgrades.

How are you gonna get 3 MSP's (at $16k each, as stated) for $48k, for the same price as a Civic?

MSPs aren't $16k anymore. Four years ago, maybe. They can be had for around $10k now, which is about the third of cost of this Civic thing.

where are you going to find a new MSP nowadays? LASER can compare this new car to whatever car he wants, new or used

Let me rephrase myself. We're not talking about used car prices.

You can compare any cars you want, but we're talking about what they do (or did) cost new.

And I was talking to you, not Laser.

I'm not sure how many of these they're making... but it can't be a lot. Generally 'niche' cars have buyers that are willing to pay a lot more than the car is actually worth. Maybe they're honda loyalists... maybe they like the individuality of having one... All I know is, these things will sell... possibly for even MORE than sticker. (lord knows there will be more than a few dealerships out there trying to pull that s***.)

speaking of which.... to the guy who said Si's are marked up like 8k where he lives. That's jut nuts! I was mildly interested in getting on a couple months ago and had it down $1k off sticker without even breakin a sweat. Granted, i live in another part of the country but still. That dealership definitely isn't the norm. These cars have lost their cache...

New car prices aside, for the SAME $30k today, I could choose between 3 used Mazdaspeed Proteges, or 1 new Honda Civic Mugen SI (assuming I could get one). True statement.

Yes, there is another discussion involving original sticker prices for both and their relative values, and I'm not engaging that discussion.

Well that's not what this thread is about and I'm not getting into that. You can buy a lot of stuff for $30k, including a used Lotus Elise (which would be my personal choice).

This thread is about a Honda Civic Si and a Mugen version Honda Civic Si, and the value of the upgrades on it and how they are factored into the price.

Wow...this thread still going? 7 pages on a Civic and nobody cares about the new RENESIS?

Good point...Although you can look at it this way...Most people either have no idea the rotary engine exists OR they love it and therefore have no need to defend or debate about its merits.

On the other hand...There are still some people out there that think anything with a "HONDA" badge isn't "import" gold and are shocked that some people still regard Hondas as Fast and Furious machines on the street & strip. ;)

My mom paid about $27k OTD for a Civic Hybrid back in April. It was fully loaded with navi and Katzkin leather seats. Civics are going up in price but they are a good car.

I myself am planning on getting an 09 Civic Si sedan depending on what body changes are made. I recently got price quoted for a 2008 Civic Si sedan for $20,936 before TTL which isn't bad for what you get and I haven't even tried negotiating yet. Better deal than my P5 in my opinion which I paid almost $19k for.

Just thought I'd share.

body changes? I doubt they'll do anything drastic.... what they NEED to do is give it the jdm tails.... they also need to lose that little window in front of the side mirrors... which aren't placed where they belong imo. I guess tha'ts the price you pay for aerodynamics... personally, I hate that s***. dealbreaker on the eclipse... dealbreaker on this car.

I dont expect any drastic body changes, just subtle ones that make the car look better. Honda usually refreshes the body style for the third year production. I do agree they need to bring the JDM tails over. That stuff is hot!

Sheeesh. I've owned 4 Honda/Acura vehicles. All great cars that served their purposes.

1997 Acura Integra
1997 Acura 2.2 CL
1999 Acura 3.0 CL
2004 Honda Civic

If you lose "that little window", the main window won't roll down (unless you fill in "that little window" with an opaque piece)

windows that roll down are so overrated.

seriously though, in looking at it again, I see your point. This design isn't nearly the crap Mitsu pulled with their Eclipse. I just like my side mirrors to be housed where the 2 sides of the triangular window meet. Not 1/4 of the way down the door. At first I thought it had to be done this way due to the raked windshield. Meanwhile, the civic coupe's are normal. Also, after sitting in an eclipse, it felt as if the side mirrors were pushed way too close to the driver and could have easily been placed in their normal place... without hindering their purpose. but regardless... the civic's a nice ride. Even though it has more hp, it basically has the same performance characteristics of the 5 year old MSP. You sacrifice individuality and (imo) looks for a more refined and more reliable ride. all for about the same $
