Woman driving manual........

Meh, I dunno.

Let's face it, kids -- the vast majority of the female population is NOT mechanically inclined. It's a simple fact of how the female brain is wired. Natural impulses, tendencies, yadda-yadda. Sexist? Yes. True? Unfortunately, yes. It's a lot of the reason why I have my windows tinted -- I don't want people to be all, "OMIGOD THAT'S A GIRL DRIVING THAT!" I want them to pay attention to the car. Because yup, that's just the facts of life.

Personally, I think that anybody that has the desire and the COMPETENCY to drive stick shift is kickass. For the overall population, it's something of a lost art. Most people just sit in traffic -- and who wants a manual in THAT situation?

However, people that just .. can't get a grasp on it, I beg on behalf of the car that they just don't do it. I always want to give the clutch a hug after I hear a non-mechanical-person trying to drive a stick.

I drive auto.

Any comments to the above statement will result in infractions.

Do you like it or think they shouldn't?

I am one of those rare cases where I hate automatic now and am totally into racing.

But do you think some woman should just stick to auto?

We don't have many females on this forum, but the ones we do have are serious hardcore manual drivers. So I know you didn't mean to offend the females but I can see some of them offended by the thread. They mean business. They are alpha females.

Anyone know where I can get one of these?

I just remember you ROASTING Iggy on city line ave the first car meet I ever went to. My thoughts on that? "That girl can drive!!"

Ok, I guess I will chime in. To respond to the original question, I think that women are generally speaking (very general (boom03)) not as good at driving in general. If you throw in some hand/eye/foot coordination in there with a manual, sure you might have some skill issues.

I drove my bike from Tampa to Daytona while my now ex drove my GTi behind me. By the time we got to Daytona and back, my clutch was toast. $700 bucks later, I was asking myself the same question... (confused)

I read in some medical journal or something once about how the males frontal lobe is developed more so than a female. Since this is the part of the brain that controls depth perception, the article stated that men should genetically be more able to handle heavy machinery and stuff like that.

For the record, I really like it when a chick has learned how to drive stick (thumb) It's kinda like when I get a lot of compliments on how I like to iron all of my clothes in my boxer briefs every day...

I don't get the question at all really... Driving a manual is the norm in the UK, auto boxes are a minority and usually an optional extra that costs more.

Some people can drive and some people can't... gender isn't an issue normally. I disagree with the whole women are safer drivers than men, as in my experience... More women have tried to cause an accident with my car than men, yet there are more men on the roads than women... So you do the math... are women really worse drivers, or is it just a higher percentage live in my town? :)

if you look at the real statistics... women are 1/3 less likely to make a claim on their insurance and will drive around with several minor dents and scrapes on their car. A bloke is 3 times more likely to want to repair his car... and ins statistics are based on claims, not real world figures... So you do the math.

Personally, I think that 99% of all drivers are stupid and trying to kill me... It keeps me aware on the roads. :)

The last three girls I dated plus one of the three girls i'm seeing now drive manual. I somehow got really lucky, personally I LOVE letting a chick drive my car, I just turn the boost down and tell them to make sure to hit redline. :)
Plus my last ex drove a stick daily and I would get lazy sometimes and let her drive, it's just beneficial IMO. But to me yea it's hot as well.

guess it was just a coincidence that all my gfs were able to drive manny. Maybe it was because I gave them self-respect enough for them to get drop the doubt in there mind, and do it.

p.s. wtf is a bloke
