Recall Anouncement

Since new my CX7 has had black sooty exhaust pipe tips inside. The dealer said this is due to it running rich which is normal. Proabably part of the reason a CX7 doesn't get that great of gas mileage. So I ask all of you-Could the recall be addressing this? Is that sooty exhaust what's violating California Clean Air law and requiring the recall? Once the recall is done, will I see less sooty exhaust tips and maybe better gas mileage?

What recall or TSB is this?
Did Mazda update the PCM?
Did they lean out the mixture or something?

There is another PCM and TCM update that came out on Sept.25th. I'm not sure on the specific changes, but my car is WAAY more responsive than before. Low and mid range power feels better. Shift patterns have changed for the better again. I have noticed a gas mileage increase, but my mileage has always been good.

Definately get this update done as soon as possible, its a noticable improvement.

It is the Califorinia Clean air recall pcm flash, and another one for engine light to do with the swirl valve.
Not sure if it leaned it out but how else would you get rid of sooty exhaust that violates a clean air law? And get better mileage at the same time.

I guess if you get a problem to the right people (California DEQ=Powerful) the manufacturer will comply. If only a few hundred little people like you and me complain, it ain't gonna happen!

Guys,

My local dealer has already replaced the shutter valve.....before or during last winter. I confirmed this with the TSB and new part #.

Now, on this California Clean Air TSB/Recall.....does it apply to other states? I have a CX-7, Sport, FWD.....is it a universal tuning or is it model/drivetrain specific. I need a TSB # guys.

Thanks

Rick

I'm in Canada so dealers might operate differently here, but I didn't need a TSB #.
Everytime I go for an oil change I ask them to hook-up the computer and download the latest updates. There was a new PCM and TCM update dated Sept. 25th last time I went in. This is a simple request that all Mazda dealers are supposed to do upon request. Some dealers hate doing this because they don't get paid for it, but they are supposed to. My local dealer updates there system regularly so they always have the latest updates, some dealers don't update their system on a regular basis.

I'm fortunate to have an outstanding relationship with my dealer so its never a problem.

And again. Is the TBS availiable in all states? What is the TBS number including all update codes/letters? Thanks Ed

When they hook up the computer your vehicle it automatically detects and installs the latest updates, you don't need a TSB.

Had this done while replacing the shutter valve... I guess it's a bit more responsive, I did notice the car searching less in terms of shifting gears.

Hey mazda3 which dealership do you goto? i live in ontario too, and i think the two dealership i goto in toronto sucks.. i wanna do this update as well..

Are you sure you got the most recent one released Sept. 25th?
The first update which I had a few months back improved the shifting a little, but no real performance difference.

The second update definately improved low and midrange performance.
