Check engine light on

yeah i think it is too. but now the check engine light is gone and I hope it's for good, at least for now.

Any stuttering? If your intake is crap, or has dirtied the MAF sensor, it may be doing the 'on and off' CEL, as sometimes the sensor gets OK readings, other times it may not.

Usually happens if the MAF sensor or EGR valve are acting up. Since you have an aftermarket intake, money is on bad MAF readings.

Yeah I notice the filter is pretty dirty. Perhaps it's time to take that sucker out and give it a good clean! It does comes on and off and so I now figure too it's probably not the gas cap, since I had it tighten very much. Nest on the list would be the intake.

If you still have not had it scanned, you are shooting in the dark. Sure, replace stuff that is obvious, but it could be completely unrelated and without knowing the code you could be in left field.

i tried 2 different code reader and both got error. then again I hate to invest 100+ for a reader if it can't "read" =p

keep in mind, with the dashhawk, its not *just* a code reader, its also a shift light, and can display up to 4 gauges at once, plus you can set it up to alert you if any go above or below the limits you set

I get my codes read at Shuck's (Advanced Auto Parts clone), maybe you could try them. They might have the code reader that works on the MS3

You might. It is a tight fit in there with the stock intake, especially if you have to re-install it. But for warranty issues, if it is on recirc, it shouldn't be a problem.

My 08' MS3 CEL is on too..

I picked up my car yesterday in Philly and drove the thousand miles to my home in Tampa. I turned my car on this morning and when I did, the car sortof revved a bit and then idled normally after that.....and the CEL stayed on. Crap. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow and I always tighten the gas cap all the way till it clicks at least once. I also have the MS CAI intake installed so we'll see what the dealer says tomorrow when I take it in.

BTW, I freakin LOVE this car. Even when I am just cruising around town for lunch, hot damn, it feels like a race car. Why didn't I trade in my 03 GTi sooner... (stash)

+1

My 08' MS3 CEL is on too.. PART 2

So, I took my car in and they said the computer showed a couple of mis-fires. They cleared the code and did a software update.

The whole thing took about an hour and a half for some reason but oh well, latest software and a clean reflash makes me feel pretty good.

Oh, and I got to chat with this really hot chick about cars for a while....gotta love Florida weather and chicks who like to show off their bodies (boobs)

so I take it that your check engine light is now gone?

Yes, my CEL is now gone and somehow, the engine seems to be a bit more smooth in first and second gears. Maybe it's just in my head though.

Crappy thing is though is that I have a weird sound in my wheel well now. Sounds like when you blow on the top of a bottle and make that "oooh" sound. It's only when I am going like 2-3 mph and it's defintely related to the rotation of the wheel. It's only doing it on a certain part of the spin. Anyways, the light is gone but I am taking it back in on Monday...sigh. Not only that, when I change gears from 3rd to 4th, I get a strange sound in the shifter. It's only during that gear change...

DUDE I HAVE THAT SOUND TOO!!! I thought it's my spring adjusting to the change of tempature. I also hear it when I go slow, and or when I turn the wheel.
