HID Help

On a P5 headlight connector, there are 2 wires: solid red and a red with a white stripe.

Which is the ground and which positive? Anyone know?

Where can I look this up?

Figured it out by throwing a multimeter on it.

SOLID: HOT

STRIPED: GROUND

This is for the driver's side and does not hold for the passenger side, because on the pass side, the colors of the wires are different. Maybe it was supposed to be that way? Weird.

Moral of the story:

The best way to determine which is hot and which is ground is with a multimeter.

I can go out and check in a bit, but really, if you hook them up backwards, they just won't light up--no big deal. Just switch the wires and it should light up.

I did this on my car, no harm done.

Also, a $15 multimeter from Advance Auto is your friend!!

can you take a pic cuz on mine, i have to have it touch the ballast for some reason. does it just have to touch metal to ground? i dunno, thats what happens when a noob tries to do something they dont know how to do. also, my high beam on the driver side isnt working.

What if the hot and ground touch while the lights are on? I now have a dim light because I think those two came together by accident, am I now in for a new wiring harness all together?

The ground is within the connector. One wire is ground and the other is hot.

I have a pic at home, and I can get it up when I get home. It would be helpful if you posted a pic of what you have as well.

I think you would blow a fuse if they touched.

I think you would blow a fuse if they touched.

Maybe not if the two wires only brushed each other once. Fuses can sometimes just melt a little when a quick spike of high current passes through them.

Either way - check that fuse.

So...after one year, has anyone figure out which wire is positive and which one is negative on the passenger side?
I don't want to invest on a multimeter right now just for this.

just plug the wires in and turn the lights on. if the bulb doesnt light up, switch the wires.

OK...It's kinda hard to treat my $99 HID kit as the $6 LED bulb.
But I guess that's the way to do it.

I agree, that's why you should get a multimeter.

plugging them in the wrong connection wont do anything bad anyway, so i dont know what your worried about...
