I know with my all motor cars the loss of power can be tragic when the AC is on.
is this the same with turbo cars???

anyone..

The MS3, along with most modern cars, shuts off the AC when you ask for full power, so it doesn't really matter.

Don't know for turboed cars in general, but in the ms3 I hardly notice it. My gas mileage did take a hit this summer though - at least 2 mpg so there's definately some drag on the engine.

In the ms3 if you have the ac on and even while stopped you can see about 2 In-Hg difference in vac when you have the ac off. It is more noticable when getting off throttle in first and second gear around 2-3k rpm. The car seems to lurch forward adjusting idle throttle position.

There is no doubt the the AC requires power to run. Just look at your electric bill in summer if you have AC. The MS3 ECU does its best to keep you cool, even at idle, while delivering full power when asked. The AC will cycle and you will notice it sometimes. At full throttle, assuming you have enough attention left to check, the AC cuts off; a small price to pay for the other entertainment values at full throttle.

yeah i notced that too when idleing the vacuum goes from 20 to 18 vac when you turn on the ac, thats becuase it increasces throttle wich opens the tubro, and reduces the vacuum

good info..

I can see it drainging my MPG but couldn't really "feel" it like in my all motor car.

anyone else notice that when you are at a complete stop, turning your wheel to either side will cause an increase in in what sounds like RPM's, but the gauge doesn't move.

how could your power steering be tied into your RPM's?
Or is it just a vaccum thing?

I hear that also. When my GF is in my car, i turn the wheel and the exhaust "growls", i tell her its growling at her......

the fan still blows cool air, b/c there is still cool air in the system, but the compresser itself shuts off temporarily

thing is, most of us are not @ WOT long enough to notice -- and like rotus said, if you're @ WOT you probably are too busy paying attention to shifting, the road, etc... by the time you ARE paying attention to the AC, its back on

it's an illusion of AC if you will, using the idea of misdirection -- its all a conspiracy I tell you!! [/sarcasm]

POWER steering. It takes power too so when you turn the wheel it is sensed and the engine is given a bit more gas to keep it from dropping the RPM.

For optimum mileage, only go in a straight line.

+1...and also you should note that holding the wheel all the way to one direction too long can damage your power steering system...

My old neon had the AC go out. Something went wrong with one of the pulleys. The power steering was connected to the AC in some way that when the AC went out I lost power steering as well.

If you turn the wheel you also notice a vacuum change in this car.
