MY 1/4 mile

First I ran a 14.9 with a 2.1 60 ft at like 88 mph and I was revving til about 6700 rpm. Then my 2nd run I turned off the DSC and shifted at 6000 rpm and I've been feathering the clutch in at about 5200ish rpm for both runs. My 2nd run was a 14.6 @ 89 mph with a 1.9 60 ft. Can anybody tell me what Im doing right or wrong? I need to know if I need the DSC off, and possibly how to launch. Whats a normal 60 ft? And what 1/4 should I be running basically stock? And should I shift just within my power band or just rev the s*** out of it?

1.9 60 foots are a decent. I cut a 14.0 @ 98 with a 1.9 60 foot (I was stock at the time). I think I was slipping out the clutch at 4500 rpm. 1.8 and 1.7 sixty foots are not uncommon around here, but I am still still afraid to drop off the clutch too quickly (it is my daily driver, and I already broke the bank buying it so I cant afford a 800 dollar clutch job). Also, I did NOT powershift at all, just drove it normally, albeit just a bit faster. Also, remember to take off the DSC. It does nothing but hurt you.

As for shifting, the MS6 drops power after 5600 rpm. In order to compensate for this, you will have to shift at different levels in each gear to stay in the powerband. Basically, what I did was:
Shifted out of first at 6500 rpm
Shifted out of second at 6000 rpm
Shifted out of third at 5800 rpm

Try doing this and adjust accordingly.

I chose to ride out 4th gear through the end of the quarter mile. Some people choose to short-shift into 5th gear to take advantage of the broad torque of the MZR engine. By my best calculations, if you were to shift into 5th, you would want to do that around 90 mph.

Dont feel bad. It takes some practice. My first run ever in the MS6 was a 15.0. I was completly embarassed. Go to the track atleast twice more, and you will get the hang of it. The 60 foot is the trickiest, and you have that down. Now work on the shifts.

ok, I will try and use my peak on the power band, and I will work my way down the rpms when I shift on em. I do take the DSC off and it made a big difference. I was wondering also if I kept my foot on the throttle like 10% instead of 100% (aka powershifting) so I can keep the turbo a little spooled but still not sure. Once I feel the car pull forward when I feather the clutch I usally just dumb it from there. Thanks for the advice though man!

A typical good run for me is a 1.70 60 foot, my best being a 1.67 I believe. I launch at around 4500 rpm and quickly feather the clutch (approx. a little over one second until I completely let off). I've only ran 1/8 with my best being a 8.20 @ 84 mph. my mods are in my sig. good luck and keep practicing!

Not to make my first post on these forums a nasty one, but I HIGHLY DOUBT you've run a 1.67 or even a 1.70 60ft. The best time I've ever seen from a MS6 is 1.72. So please post your slips.

I dont have my boost gauge installed yet, so I dont know if this is an accurate statement or not, but I dont think I am losing too much spool during the shifts for 2 reasons ....
1 - I shift fast enough
2 - turbo is small and spools VERY quick when your have your pedal to the floor
You can try it, but I dont know how much of a difference it will make.

Also, what year car are you running? If it is a 2006, do you have the reflash? This will help ALOT if you are only running 91 or 92 octane. I dont have the reflash (and dont ever want it) but I can tell you first hand that running 93 octane makes a huge difference over 92 octane in triple digit temperatures. If you dont have the reflash, find some 93 octane at a Sunoco and try again.

Road and Track magazine tested the MS6 with 91 octane, and it was slow as hell after 60 mph, which sounds exactly like your situation. I think they posted a 21 second run to 100 mph ... all because they used 91 and not 93.

I used 93 octane, and its an 2007. I just got the car too lol...Only 1400 miles. But I hopefully will be getting better.

2 octane points....i doubt it....

and ebranch.....you're right and i apologize. my best 60 foot is 1.76. my mistake. and it is posted somewhere on these forums for your viewing pleasure.

I'd like to see a 1.6 60 ft from a MS6 also, seems like it would be hard to do but you never know i guess. My buddies EVO that i ran just got a 12.7@109mph with a 1.7 and 1.8 60ft's

Actually, it does make a difference (on 2006 models that is). If 2 points didnt make a difference there would be no need for a reflash. I dont have the reflash and 92 octane with a full load of people on a trip from NJ to Ohio caused massive loss of power. Im sure the triple digit temps didnt help (and maybe altitude? I thought forced induction was supposed to help with this) either. Maybe it was bad gas, but my buddy has a Solstice GTP and from a stop I usually murder him, and from a roll, it all depends on what speed we start at, but out in Ohio he walked all over me every time, even when I didnt have people in the car. Anyway, went to the local Sunoco, put in some 94 (5% ethonal) and all power ws restored.

But, here is a link to that Road and Track article: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=31&article_id=3280

And here is the data panel for all the statistics - Read the Test Notes next to acceleration. keep in mind, it was a 2006 model: http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/download/0603_awd_data_panel.pdf

I think there is a break in for this car till about 2000?? Maybe the ECU is limiting boost and/or timing? Or maybe it is still in the learning phase. Either way, get the mileage up around 2000 and try again.

Is that true? anyway I can find out about that? Cause if so that would be exciting :P

Thanks alot again guys for the good and the bad posts :P

1.76 sounds much more like it. Sorry to thread jack... but I am very proud of my 1.73 and I wanted to know how to cut another .05 off of it. :)

i ran a 1.69 60ft and a 13.294 at 104.9 but i was running on 110 octane. pure race gas. didnt hurt the car any but thats ur choice some people have had issues with pure race gas but i havent as of yet. this was also my 10th run at the track and ive mastered the launch of my car my first run was a 14.3.. ive had previous experience running DSM's at the track.. its not to far fetched for u guys to run these numbers u just gotta take a few risks but if its ur everyday driver and u got no cash dont do it cuz u will break stuff.... like ur tranny, clutch, axles, and others.. i havent to date broken anything but my clutch is on its way out.

06 speed 6.. custom 3 inch turbo back, MBC set at 17psi, walbro 255 fuel pump,AEM CAI, SU motor mount, 3.5 ETS, SU boost tubes, MT-90 fluid, royal purple motor oil, fram oil filter, TWM Stage 2 short shifter( helped alot!!). and last but not least 110 octane...

im not saying ur going to get the same results as me if u do the same mods but im proving it is possible.

ill have it up when i get home tonight guys im at my g/f right now but checkback on here at like 12 tonight
