Prosport Boost Gauge Install Problems

Alright...

Two weeks ago I started to install my prosport electrical boost gauge. I hooked up into the vacuum line (off the BOV), mounted the sender, and ran the wires through the firewall.

Today, I got the electrical done. When I turn the car to ACC, the gauge lights up, does its proper start up sweep.. and then goes to -21psi (Vac).

When I start the car.. it stays at -21psi (Vac). No responce to the throttle at all.

Any suggestions? Is the sender broken? Do I suck at electrical?

I know this sounds dumb, but did you put the sender wires into the right connector to the back of the gauge? Ive got the same gauge but havent done the install yet. I know you have a black, red and white wire that gets soldered to the connector. Than theres a clear vacuum line that goes from the included T adapter, to a inline filter, to the sender. It shouldnt show any vacuum with the acc on... Which acc wire did you tap ( location? ).

I used the Lighter for the Acc signal. Illumination for the Illumination signal. Radio for the Constant +12.

The molex connector for the sender only fits onto the gauge in one direction, and its seated properly at the back of the gauge.

I saw a post around here talking about a sender unit with a Black, Red and Green wire, as apposed to mine (Black, Red, White). Do I have the wrong sender unit?

Update:

I have rechecked my electrical. Everything seams to be good.

I rechecked my sender wiring, everything looks good. I then tried swamping the wires around (ie, red to white, white to black..etc.etc.etc) to see if the wires were somehow coded wrong. By switching the polarity I was able to make the gauge read steady +21, but that really isn't helpful.

I then took the sender unit apart to see if something was broken inside. I think the circuit board is broken. I was able to make the gauge move by using my finger to short out certain terminals. For a minute I was able to make it show -2psi constant on the gauge, but by hopes quickly went away as it dropped back to -21psi.

So.. I guess i need a new sender...

Sorry to hear about your sender being a dud. Im doing mine next weekend, so hopefully i dont run into the same jam as you. Keep me updated on your RMA.

I installed by pro-sport peak-hold gauge over the weekend. Sender had black/red/white wire. Wired up just like the instructions -works fine.

Your pdf doesn't look right.

Yea, that PDF definately doesnt look right at all Red wire from sensor to +12V? Now you have 2 +12V sources going into the gauge!

Q: My Gauge does not work-the needle stays pegged?
A: 99% of the time this is because the gauge is not fully hooked up. Meaning, the sender needs to be installed and powered up for the gauge to work properly. The other 1% of the time is you have a bad ground or open circuit in your wiring.

Q: I lost my instructions how do I wire the performance Series gauge?
A: Black –Ground
Red - 12v ign. power-meaning power when the ignition is on.
White- 12v ign. power
Orange-Headlight switch.
Green - Sender
The above wiring will result in white during the day and color (amber or Green) at night.

Q: How Do I wire my Premium Series Gauges?
A: Red -Constant 12v power
Black-Ground
White-12v ignition power
Orange-headlight switch
Green –Sender

Some info off Prosport's site ope it helps you, i'm going to be installing my gauges in about a week, gotta order them in the next few days....

Hey im having the same problem i ran the red to ignition and black to ground but yet i still have left over the white wire from the boost vacum and then on the gauge there is a gren 1 and a orange one and i tired connection both and nothing happens can you see if you could send me the instructions or help me out

Guys - If you look at your papers that came with the gauges, you will see that the Red, Black and Green (on the Gauge) are standard. The red is 12v, the Black is ground and the Green is the sender wire that goes to the Green wire on the Sender.

The White and Orange are for the display and determine the colors. Depending on how you want your display to look, you hook up both or just one. I'm not positive, but I think if you hook the White to 12v you get amber for both day and night. This is what I did and it matches our interior gauges correctly.

The sender has 12v, Ground and Green. The 12v goes to the battery, black to ground and green to the green sender wire on the back of the gauge.

Now mine was not the premium, so I'm not sure if there are different colored wires. But in my case the little white paper that came with my gauge was simple enough to understand.

Prosport sent me a copy of these updated installation instructions today.

I will try this tonight and update on status.

That pdf looks correct to me, i have the guage working for about 8 months now, and have it bright white during the day and red/amber at night.

Well if it wasnt broken before than it is now...why on earth would you start sticking you fingers in to "short out" the terminals...I mean really nothing good can come of that...

it's called diagnosis lol

i would make sure the grounds are correct. we have made that mistake with this gauge before.

I used the add a fuses from auto zone instead of tapping into sources. Right under the glove compartment extended the electrical about 12" or so for all 3 found a good gnd and it all worked great.

Red wire/ fuse 37 White/ fuse 81 Amber/ fuse70.

god i hope you arent serious...yeah shorting the thing out will definately help your diagnosis...then you know for sure it is broken, not that it MIGHT be broken haha

I have this image of someone standing in front of an electrical outlet with a knife, thinking...well, lets see if this one works.

I remember when my buddy stuck a metal pole into an outdoor light socket to see if the porch light worked as he never seen a bulb in it.

Yah it worked all right, I had to tackle him off the damn thing as it was frying him.

Yah the words IQ and Redneck tend to not go together unless you're mentioning the lack of the former.
