Woot! Just got my new protege5! any advise for a new owner?

Hi everybody, First post here yall, great domain name you got there, I just typed protege5.com the other day and I'm here.

Visited a Mazda dealer this Tuesday, finally bought the car yesterday(Thursday). It's a 2003 silver base model Protege5 automatic with no other options at all. Went with the S-plan pricing at $16874 with an ADDITIONAL $1750 rebate from mazda, the out the door price comes to just $16710, and yes, that includes Tax and Liscense and everything eles, also made the dealer throw in a free cargo net. I used to work in auto sales so I'm pretty certain that this is a GREAT deal. :)

I've never had a mazda before, and I only had it for one day, but I'm already starting to like it a lot, and even for the base model it is loaded with many neat stuff, power everything, remote entry, CD, 16" alloy, 4 disc breaks, big fog lights, just to name a few. The dealer told me it was actually a late 2003 model with a few minor changes and comes with a 100W sub under the trunk carpet. The bass sounds really good but I feel the main speakers could have a little help. I'm not complaining though it sounds very decent for a stock stereo. Anyways, great great value especially with the price I paid. Guys I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm advertising for mazda and trying to sell you the car, I'm sure most of you already know the stuff, maybe I'm just a little excited.

This is also my first wagon, BTW is our car considered as wagons? I assume it is because it has 4 doors and it is a hatchback. The car handles well so far, I havn't tested its limits yet because of the break-in period. I was told by the dealer it can take turns like a sport car, I'll see how hard it is to make the tire squeal once the odometer hits 1000 mark.

I also like that red strut tower bracelet, I don't see those very often on stock cars, another nice touch there. Okay, you've had enough from me, so any one of you got any advise for a new owner? Anything I should be aware of? Suggestions of small, cheap mods? Good or bad, they're all welcome, tell me all about it. :)

It's not a wagon. :D It's shorter than the sedan, so therefore it's a 4-door hatchback. :D

Now that that's over with....Welcome to the club and congrats on your purchase. :D

welcome dood! Nice choice with the P5! an easy mod that most people do as soon as they get home is take off the roof rack. Gives it a sportier look. But if you use the roofrack, scratch it off your mod list. ^_^y peace out

Gauge Bezel Rings by DaveB and his wife (35)
K&N Drop in Filter (30)
Sparkco Wires (don't know how much these are anymore)
Mazda OEM Cargo Tray (40)

EL Door Sills (115) [a bit blingy, but I like it :)]
19mm Rear Sway Bar (150)

and it just gets more and more expensive

Anybody knows a place that sells it cheap? I've heard it gives very little performance increase but gives you better gas mileage so eventually it pays for itself.

Instead of paying $40 for just the filter, I'd check into ont of the intakes off e-bay.

Roof racks are an option now? Sorry I think I will hold on to mines...just in case I ever do something active with my life...

I would like to check out those gauge bezels, how can I get a hold of some of those? I had that idea but didn't know anything about anything when it came to fabricating some of those, and I couldn't find anyone who sells them.
