I've trying to remove my rear wheel but the wheel lock keeps slipping off and will not "grab". It's not stripped or whatever but I cannot get that wheel lock off. Any suggestions?
Well, these look & sound like metal when I dropped the front one that I did get off. However, the key for the back one sits right but when pressure is applied, it just slips right off.
Boy, I'm stumped. I've taken mine off and put them on multiple times and my "key" worked fine each time -- nice and tight. I ordered a "spare" though and used that -- never tried the one that came with the car. Should work just as well though.
Wish I could help! No choice but to take it to the dealer or another tire shop -- they must have a way to get them off somehow?
is it the nut thats screwed up...if so do you have a hammer, get something flat and place it against the nut and hit it to straighten it out some and then place the key in and try again...all this does is just straighten the tip of the nut where the key enters.
There is a special tool you can "get" that looks like a normal lug socket but it's no an actual size. The inside is just tapered. You slamm it on then lefty loosen.
Actually II-Savy makes a good point -- you "may" be able to buy one of those "universal" sockets with the pins on the inside that just adapt to whatever you're trying to unscrew. So that would adapt to whatever pattern the key is. I doubt those universal socket pins are strong enough though because those lugs are usually torqued pretty good. Plus, if it WOULD work, then it renders our "locks" totally useless lol!
i lost my wheel lock and used a 19mm socket and just banged it on so it was tight and then used a socket wrench to loosen it. Oh and then i found my damn key.
