I have an old mitt sort of thing but i dont know if that will scratch the paint since it seems to collect allot of dirt and crud inside the mitt that might scratch the paint.
I havent seen anything at the stores that looks safe enough to use so ill ask the "experts" here.
Thanks
Shane

I use the absorber to dry the car...get it at wal-mart for $8..For washing I use a nornal sponge

to wash? use a sponge... the big yellow ones they sell EVERYWHERE... to dry,, now that is a different story.. I still use towels.. I have a shamy,, but it just takes to damn long.. the water dries before you can get it off so I just use as soft as a towel as I can get..

Micro Fiber Towels

http://www.vaporcleanproducts.com/magic.htm

I bought the sampler pack - Fantastic $24.95 + $6.00 shipping

The Waffle Weave (included) is great for drying. The other Micro Fiber Towels are great for removing wax. Read the reviews.

I wash with a large sponge; constantly dipping into the bucket (use Blue Coral or Meguiar's Gold Class car wash).

I with AGR ... I used the microfiber towels for the first time this weekend. It only took 4 of the smaller towels to dry the entire car about 10 minutes. Spotless! (2thumbs)

For washing, I use a soft bristled brush.

you know those absorbers are just as good for washing the car as well.. keep one around to dry with and one around to wash with..

use 2 buckets. one for rinsing and one for washing.

that way you can try and keep the dirt from getting rubbed
back onto the car scratching the paint.

I seriously doubt anything is easier on the paint then a Micro Fiber Towel.

I use one of the big, soft bristle brushes that are mounted at the end of a telescoping pole.....washes the whole car in less than 10 minutes. Just don't get the cheap ones with hard plastic bristles cuz they'll screw up your paint.....get the more expensive soft touch kind. I've been using them for years on all my cars and never had scratches or swirls. Good car wash soap helps too....I use the Meguiars stuff......makes enough suds for 2 cars.

I've been using one of the gold spun mitts to wash with Mother's California Gold Shampoo...damn those things are nice...when rinsing just use hose pressure water (without the nozzle...water just flows away.) Then dry it off with the absorber or terry cloth towels...absorber is faster (and in my opinion) better, though.

Well...potato boy; I would listen to Greg. For your car: $1,000 plus travel expenses.

Please help me clear this out for me. I THOUGHT sponge was the one that will create swirl or scratches on the car and not the towel, or is it other way around? Logcially, seem to me that sponge would create more sponge than towel. Anyway, which one is one that actaully create swirld/sratches on the car?

Thanks for clearing it out.

Towels will indeed scratch the surface (swirls, etc...). So; you must be careful with the kind of towels you use. These Micro Fiber Towels will not even scratch the surface of a compact disc. They are quite good. There are others available as well. From Meguiar's, Premium Auto Care (www.premiumautocare.com), etc... The Vapor Product line is less money, and apparently the same towel. Great product, and a great price!

Some people, for washing, prefer a sponge, some prefer a mit. You just need to see what works best for you. I currently use a sponge; but, I am always keeping it soaked with water.

Something else; very important!! 'Never' dry your car cleaning / polishing towels with a fabric softener, or dryer sheets. This will cause scratches. I wash with a mild detergent, and I wash all of my car towels alone. I dry them on very low heat, and you can remove them even a bit damp to air dry.

Remember: What can't be seen on other color cars, sure as hell can be seen on BLACK!! You may get away with using a plain old towel on a white, silver, etc... colored car; but try it on a Black car, and your screwed. Everything shows!

Washing...

I use a mitt and two sponges:

Mitt for the hood, top, trunk, and top half of the doors down to the crease.

First sponge for the lower half of the doors, back end of the car, and front end of the car in that order. BUT, not for the lowest cladding on the back, front or side sills.

Second sponge for the cladding and wheels. Oh, and a bath brush with a handle to do the inner portion of the wheels. Works really well.

The idea is to keep the big hunks of dirt off the mitt used on the top panels of the car.

And an Absorber to dry with. Works MUCH better than my old chamois.
