What oil and gear oil do you root for?

I'm looking to switch motor oil and gear oil.
From what Ive read, amsoil has a better viscosity change resistance, flash point, and cold flow than Mobil 1, redline, and royal purple. But there are simply still really bad reviews to all of them. Anyone have any input on this?

Ive never had a problem with any Oil ive used. I don't stick to one brand over another. But on gear oil. I will never run anything but Red line. I run 75-90 gear oil and heavy shock proof.

It is all the same. I've tried Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple in my gearbox. I've never noticed a difference. Use the recommended weight for whatever oil you need, and buy whatever is the cheapest. For the engine I go back and forth between Mobil and Catrol depending on what's on sale. For the transmission (and differential in my C6), I have Amsoil currently because I had a friend with an Amsoil membership.

As everyone has already mentioned, brands don't make much of a difference as long as you use the right viscosity. But if it matters any, I use Mobil1 5W-30 (4 quarts with 626 V6 filter) in the engine, and Redline MT90 75W90 (3 quarts) in the transmission.

The only difference I see is Conventional vs. synthetic, after that each brand is pretty much the same. With that said I only buy Mobil 1, lol. But I would also run Royal Purple, Redline etc.
