What horns are you running?

Looking for horn suggestions. The only other time Ive had the push to change/mod the factory horn was on the Miata, which also had a wimp horn. I just swapped in an OE horn I had lying around from a previous midsize car. Ive never bought horns so looking for some reasonable suggestions. It seems the Nautilus is king but I really dont want to spend so much. Id like to stay in the ~$20 range if possible and NOT ridiculously loud, just loud enough. So, what are you running?

Any thoughts on these? Im leaning towards FIAMM over the HELLA. Reviews indicate the Hella does not feel like a quality item.

I bought a Honda LOW horn part #38100-STK-A02 and I tapped into OEM horn harness with a blue splicer. Mounted both horns into the same hole with the same bolt and it works like a charm with a nice and loud dual tone horn. Definitely under $20.

I went with the pair of FIAMM (hi/lo) for $20 shipped. Should be arriving any day. Went to Pepboys (ugg..) and bought a single FIAMM horn to test out. Felt like a quality product (USA made!) and sounded nice but cost $17 for 1 lo tone...

Unlike you guy's down south... Most people in canada hardly ever use the horn. Even in big cities you hardly hear a horn. I think of it as a last resort when an evasive manuver is impossible, like when someone with a big truck is backing into you at Tim Hortin's, or a Moose just wont move of the road eh.
Hence the factory unit is more than sufficient!

The last time I modded a horn system I added 15+ air horns and a compressor under the hood. There's about a quarter second delay while the compressor spools up (no big deal) but it's LOUD.

I can relate to that and agree to this comment overall. Been to Canada a few times and most* people are friendlier. I too hardly use my horns but as you commented the catch here is 'hardly'. This means when I do “need” to use it, I want to be damn sure it does as advertised! I was meeping away last night when the car to my left started swerving into my lane... Sometimes I wish I had air horns BUT I don't think that's necessary and my kids like to honk the horn when we are waiting in the car.

This incident finally pushed me over the edge and decided to man it up…

Hmm. That didn't save correctly- 15+ INCH air horns. Just two of them though. Not fifteen separate horns! Two so that you have slightly different frequencies (horns are slightly different lengths) so it sounds like an old school domestic horn (or a train horn).

Oh, and now after reading the thread you linked in- I road tested my old Civic's horn on the highway. At 65mph you can't hear it in the next lane- a buddy and I were honking at each other on the highway with our windows down- could barely hear anything! The 5 is about like that. The air horns I got are WAY louder than those Hella Supertones or any other electric horn "upgrade" by quite a bit. They're loud enough to get someone's attention QUICK. I honked once at a guy in a Camry that cut me off- startled him enough that his car wobbled a bit from side to side- and that was from about 5 car lengths back. I installed a switch on the horn signal line so that I could toggle between the factory horn and the air horn to pass inspection. It was also fun to get behind friends and hold the horn button down, then flip the switch back and forth to screw with them.

I had the same problem. Drove to New York state and was embarrassed to honk the horn a couple times. When I did honk the horn I'm pretty sure nobody heard it. I ordered those Hella trumpet horns and they work great. They sound kinda like a Ford F-150 horn, but just a little bit louder. It only took me about an hour to install. Well worth the effort.
