Washing a P5 with a front mask left on?

The instructions on my mask and the dealer said that I should remove the mask b4 washing my car. Is this really necessary? this is going to be a pain in the butt if I have to take it off every other week or so.

i would do it...if you leave it on you're going to get a build up of dirt under the mask that will just accumulate...

I'm glad you (Cheese) see my point. Why protect something by covering it up and never even seeing it? Protect the paint but covering up the paint and not even seeing the paint is just self defeating. Kinda like a pocket protector, or a leather cell phone case. Unless it improves the look but in this case, it really doesn't. I've even seen a Porsche 911 with a mask!!! I wanted to chase after it and scream at them for ruining a gorgeous car.

exactly... but with a deflector, maybe my windshield wouldn't have gotten cracked by that rock that flew up off the road last year (a month after i gopt the car)...

Yup, and the only thing that you should get to protect the front is a deflector because it does not cover anything up.

and since my P5 is midnight blue, i think the deflector would look rather fitting... unlike lets say a yellow P5 with a black plastic deflector... ya know what i mean?

I ordered mine from Mazda of Wooster, who actually sells those on Ebay. I paid $85.00 shipped to my door. It was well worth it, as it helps to keep the car cleaner and protect from chips... Well, that, and it looks good too.

In fact you should not put that mask on your car at all... Unless maybe if you go camping and plan on doing a lot of gravel road...

If you keep the mask always on the car you will notice after a few years that the paint of the car will have faded everywhere but where the mask is. Then it will be a pain is the @$$ to match it. I would understand if you lived in a place with snow and all that crap but I don't think it is very useful in your area.

I think the Mask looks ok on our protege5's...I dented up the front bumper...and i don't have the money yet to purchase a west wings or erubruni...kit...so i will be putting it on till next year when i get the new bumper!!!

P.S. Make sure you take it off before going to car was..dirt and dust will build up underneath!

Thanks everyone for your input, but personally I think it makes my P5 look sportier and yes I do live in an area with lots of snow, unpaved roads, lots of construction in town, etc.

However, I do agree with you about the paint. But my P5 will NEVER fade. hahahahahah

IMO the masks look fine on the P5's. The full mask is obviously more functional and useful in comparison to the magnetic bra/deflector, but both serve a purpose-one having no permanent side effects. It would be truly great if someone got off their butt and made a full front magnetic bra...hint hint

I never thought about the "self-defeating" concept that you spoke of before.

My only rebuttle to that is the fact that some of us are driving in s*** conditions, and still want to have a clean car for show (with no bra, AND no dings!) , either that once or week "pimping", or definetly, for me, in the spring and summer.
