Warrantees

I recently bought a 2003.5 Yellow Mazdaspeed Protege and love it. (Of course, excluding the black hole in the fuel map.) I need to keep it under warrantee, but I'd like to do two things:

1. Install a boost guage on the column
2. Up the boost to 8psi or so

Can these be done without voiding the warrantee?

God I love this car. I had a twin-turbo '94 RX-7, and I still love this car.

Welcome to the board

The boost gauge really shouldn't be a problem. If you have a real dumb dealer, they might try and give you a hard time, but they have no real ground to stand on. As for raising the boost...that will cause you more problems. For the real story on warranty issues, please visit this thread.

The boost gauge shouldn't be a problem. The boost controller is more so. It'll be fine if it doesn't cause any problems, but lets say you blow your motor. If the dealership can prove that it was your boost controller then they can void your warranty on the motor. If the problem was something other than the boost controller than they still have to honor their warranty. Hope that helps.

What's a good column mount to put in? On my 7, there was a complete upper half that had a guage pre-installed. Is there such a thing for the 'Speed?

most people are going with autometer gauge pillars or pods. most are also painting them to match the stock pillar. cheap and effective.

Welcome James!! I would hold off on the Boost Controller for now. You've probably seen the posts regarding the upcoming fix to the hesitation(knock on wood). I would wait and see how this all unfolds before you put a controller on. Better to be safe than have to fight with the dealership when you take it in for the re-flash.

Also need to consider if the re-flash will affect above stock boost...if the reflash leans it out too much, it could be dangerous to even up the boost at all, but I guess we'll have to wait and see..

The reflash cannot up the boost, because boost pressure in this car is controlled by the wastegate, not the ECU. It's not like the VW/Audi 1.8T engines, where all you need to do to up the boost is install a chip (the boost is electronically controlled by the ECU).
