VTCS sensor needs to be checked, should I do a 90k service as well?

Hey guys just wondering what needs to be done at 90k? I have an engine check light on as well and I think it's the VTCS sensor according to the read out. So I will let the dealer take care of the engine light, I think a little sensor shouldn't be to much $$$. Anyone ever had the VTCS (variable trample control system) sensor replaced ? The dealer told me it is going to be $390 plus tax for the 90k service! is that reasonable or should I do it myself? (upbum)
Thanks

PS. I got better gas millage since the engine light came on :confused: (werd)

Look in the manual, it says what is needed at certain mileages. Then price all the things you need, then ask yourself "do I trust my dealer?" if so and the price is reasonable then let them do it and go watch a ball game or if you are like me and dont trust anyone then do it yourself and listen to a ball game on the radio. Most maintenance stuff is relatively easy, just dont buy the Rad hoses at pepboys they r absolutely garbage. If you dont have the manual let me know and I can dig mine up.

And you said you think it is VTCS? How did you know? You can rent a reader at autozone and then look up the code online google. I think those things had a recall or something so you may want to look into that and demand a replacement, dont quote me on this though.

The recall was for VICS on mar-aug? 2003s. Post up a WTB thread. I'm sure someone should have one, if by sensor you mean the actuator. Not sure what other sensor there is besides the ecu on the other end. Don't recall any electrical part hooked to that. That price sounds typical dealer ridiculous to me. Do more research before plopping the cash down. Looking at service manual now for the sensor you speak of......................Check valve, shutter valve, delay valve & solenoid(actuator). All of these appear to be vacuum driven. I see no electrical connections or parts called sensor. Price seeming more ridiculous. Get 2nd or 3rd opinions before spending cash. The actuator is easy to get to & replace. Couple of bolts & retaining clip & 1 vacuum line.

Yeah I am missing it :)

yeah I am missing my manual . If you could dig it up and let me know what needs to be done at 90K I will greatly appreciate it :)
Thanks man!

And here is the engine code read out : P1569
I looked it in the shop-manual : "Variable tamble control system (VTCS) solenoid valve circuit low input". I read the shop-manual and have no idea what it means. I had it on for a good month, if anyone knows let me know before I go to the dealer and get screwed :).
I also looked up the edmunds.com for the maintenance schedule and at 90K I only have to do the basic plugs, air filter, spark no timing belt and no flushing of any kind. edmunds estimate was $190 for that service. AM I correct on the service part?

then all you need to do is replace that solenoid.... it's easy and there ought to be people here who'll sell you one

Ok here is some of things at 60K miles:
I=Inspect
R=Replace
L=Lube

Engine valve clearence I 60k M
timing belt I
Oil & Filter R
Air Filter R
Coolant R 45k M
Fuel lines and hoses I
Hoses and tubes emissions I
Spark plugs R
Brake lines I
Locks and hinges L

Hope this helps. You can do all this yourself. I would buy all aftermarket stuff like NGK plugs, ss brake lines etc. Flushing the rad is easy, they are all the same so google is your friend here, scrub it, flush it, replace hoses, replace cap, there are many how to out there read a few of them to get some ideas.
