OK I already posted on this but I need to find out if anyone with a vivid yellow P5 has had any problems with an auto body shop matching the original factory color after any work has been done.

To make a long story short I had some work done and the Mazda Paint code(HZ) didnt match the original color. Its not that bad or hardly noticable except in certain light you can really tell. Please if anyone has had any problems with this let me know.
Sorry I know the pics dont do any justice. But it is very noticable. Especially in the 2nd pic of the DR jam, its like this in all of the jams.

Is it that bad? I can't really tell from the pictures. You can tell them that the paint looks off and see if they will redo it for you?

I had the same problem, I had my front drivers fender and front bumper painted and it wasn't the same. The yellow is a bit lighter on the repainted part. See if you can tell;

See thats the thing i cant tell on your vehicle. Its not that my car got the hole paint job just for a rear bumper and rear passenger quarter, believe me i am very happy of that, the only thing I wasnt satisfied with is the door jams and mirrors. In the daylight you cant even really tell but when you pull it into a garage its a hole diff story. I dont want that to come bite me in the Arse whe it comes time to sell it.

BTW nice shoes what are those??

Oh man, I have had my car painted so many times, so many different parts, my shop matches the paint up no problem. Keep in mind the paint may be a bit duller compared to the rest until you get a proper polish. My shop usually lets the paint set for a week and then we polish the new paint and it always matches perfect

yes, when I had my lip painted the color was TOO light, much like in your pics...However, when I had my wing painted by another shop it was right on...

I heard somewhere that maybe Canada got a different HZ yellow.... maybe a different lead level (yellow pretty much has to have lead in it to make color)

It's not to light its a darker shade of yellow. The mirrors and inside the door jams are the original yellow which is a lighter shade than what was painted. I figure it might be the pigments in the blend of paint that maybe causing it to darken up like that. Its really not that bad you can barely tell when its outside in daylight, but like I said when you pull it into a garage with flouresent light you can definetly tell that the mirrors, as well as the door jams, did not get painted with the rest of the car.

great...now you guys are starting to scare me, im getting a WW body kit painted and the rear valence and a door that got scratched when a tire flipped up on the side of my car. Now I am wondering if I should just paint the whole car. :(

Well, when you go sell the car, make sure to show it to the potential buyer in the sunlight, so they won't see the difference. Most people won't be able to.
Just like in the pic of murda79's car with the front fender a bit off. I couldn't see it at first. (I did notice his JDM tails, though) but once I read where it was, I looked closer and I can tell. *barely* but it's so close, that I wouldn't have been able to tell without knowing first. I thought it was just the way the light reflected off of the fender.
Same with your car.
If it still bothers you, I would take the mirror covers off and tell him to paint those to match the rest of the car. that way you wouldn't have any doubt that all the exterior parts of the car match.

Yeah well I have a appt. to talk with the owner about it so we can figure out a deal. hopefully he wont freak out on me again. I really dont wanna have to take him to court over this. but ill do whatever is nessary to get it resolved.

Don't know if you got things worked out, but I have a good idea what the problem is. We ran across the same problem when I had parts of my cf evo hood painted to match the car. It was custom matched on the car. would look perfect then after painting it was darker. Reason: Clear Coat. all the mazda non metalic paints are single stage paints. It has no clear coat. When you put a clear on on it, it gets slightly darker. So there's two choices....repaint the whole car or make sure painter uses a single stage paint. You can't clear the whole car cause Mazda only used enough paint to cover the primer. Found that out when we tried to just clear the car. We started to wet sand with 1000 grit and burned through the paint. So due to that we ended up repainting the whole car yellow then cleared it. but we didn't go through the hassles of doing door jams, door edges and fender flanges so if you open a door, hood, hatch you see the original color. Now that I have a second car might go back and do it.

I Basically Have 4 Different Shades Of Yellow On My Car,
My Lip - Driver Side - Hood - Front Bumper

Yellow Is Horrible To Match....
My Next Car Will Not Be Yellow For Sure!

Well I have yet to resolve this issue with the Auto body shop. I dont think I am going to.......it has been taking up to much of my time and honestly I dont think its even a real big issue. But I am however going to talk with the insuance company and try to settle with a check for painting the mirrors and door jams. I will probably end up buying covers the the mirrors and fixing the door jams myself.

I'll know more on Friday!!

I tried explaining this to someone before...but apparently they did not believe me. When I was getting my hood done, my painter said "there's no clear coat" and "the paint is so dang thin". My hood & top of car are now clear coated and if you really look you can tell...oh well...at least the black looks good and shiney (shrug)
