Update on my MPI Tuner!

ahah why do we all have such bad laptops??? Beau has the same problem as we do. Sheesh!!! lol

BTW Chas- do you have your global switch settings all set? Meaning are you using all four settings- rpm, deflection, amp, and throttle? If so what are they set to? I'd love to see what everyone has theirs set to. Right now I'm only using the ign and that's set to come on at .72 and it seems just about right.

ONLY USE ONE OF THE GLOBAL SETTINGS! PREFERABLY THE SWITCH!

Sorry for the cap locks..other wize..any time you try to rev in neutral you car will bog down...

My switch is set to 62 now..

SMP3k..you need to make sure you have the switch coming on at the right point in time..if you put it on to late..you will be starving the motor...

to soon..and your a/f will be so rich..that you will just bog down!

It sounds like you have it set to late...it should really be in the high 60's rather than low 70's for your sized turbo.

With big timm's turbo..it's so large..his numbers are in the 80's due to turbo lag.

Very true- but me and Linux have the exact same turbo and I think his is set to .75 or so... I'm at .72 right now. I could test .68 or something and see what happens. When we originally set it we were using a laptop with a battery and were able to see right when it should come on- and that setting was .75, but since then I've switched wastegates so it has chaned a bit.

Chas what does your ign map look like? Is it backwards as well? hehe

My igntinting (sp?) maps..look very normal..I have zero timing pullin when i am not in boost. I don't mess with advancing it.

It progressivley gets upto like -8 on the 8X16 maps. On the side bar i pull out as much as -6 retard..progressively!

But i promise to post by tomm! I will post using my laptop!

Dude I have mine coming on at .75, so you may need to go lower. My turbo has a bit more lag than yours, so you should be in boost sooner. Here is a snap shot of my map, where the 1's are is where I come into boost. I have them one line lower then where I usually come into boost so I can boost in 5th. It is still rich as hell, so I need to lean it out. I'll probably have 0's in that area when done.

Damn! is that right?
I already have 3psi of boost @ 2500rpms on my TO3

Yup, but when it comes on, it's on!!! That is where it is when I am driving around at normal speeds and step on it. I get 8psi at around 3700-3800 RPM when I nail it from 2k RPM.

Chas, thanks!! I'll check em out- my car's been running great off just ytour fuel map alone. I've moded it a bit to accomodate my 8-9 psi but otehr than that it's pretty much yours... Now time to compare ignition maps. :)

My ignition numbers are very conservative. I do not have any way to detect knock/ping other than listening.

This map is good for turbo size T3 and smaller (non ball bearing). Lookin to push between 8-11psi(depending on turbo size). Using the Newest version of MPI Tuner Software & hardware.

Also, This map is completely tuned for street. I have tuned in every gear...to make driviablitly as close to stock as possible. My map may cause your car to run a little lean at idle..but the protege loves to run lean at idle. I saw this first hand when i went to the dyno..and compared all of the protege's that dyno'd!

Good luck..and as alwayz..this map is mine..but is yours to use as freely as you like. I am in no way responsible for anyone misusing/using my maps and blowing their motor!

Thanks
Chas

P.S. I am Lookin for some Sponsorship! Please help!

I burned your maps to a CD and ran down to use the laptop and then realized the guy who loaned it to me picked it up today!!! Doh!!! (crazy)

So I just bought a used compaQ on ebay that has a good battery life and should get it later this week. THEN I can tune some more.

I thank you for your help with these maps Chas. I too have only my ears as guard against knock- so I am also pretty safe with the timing pull.

Should my numbers differ at all from yours since you're spooling up so much faster? On the 1X16 Amp scale .62 and .70 are like two cells apart (where each of our switches turn on). Should I shift my numbers two cells up since my switch isn't turning on till then- or does it really not matter that much?

As of today the car feels damn fast at higher RPM's but is still pretty dog slow at the lower rpm's since I don't really hit boost till 3500 or so. I need to advance some timing in those lower RPM's like you did in your map.

yeah..by advancing the timing..you can actually get the turbo to spool up faster..but i didn't want to go crazy. So they are very moderate.

Can i see a pic of your timing maps?

Do you have a 3" exhuasts? If so you will lose low end power. But have some schweet power uptop.

I do not have the 3" exhuasts..so down low..the car is sick..spinnin tires 1'st, & 2nd gear. b/c of the tq. But uptop..the car starts to choke..b/c it can't get all the air out as quikly as it should..I still have the oem 2nd cat...resonator..all the way to the axel back portion.

Chas

I wish I had a way of getting screen captures or the map files but now that the laptop is gone I'm kinda screwed until my new one comes in. :(

Yes I have 3 inch exhaust, with no cats or resonators and my DP is a MAMotorsports custom 2.5 with my T303 exhaust housing bored to 2.5 in. :)

So in the exhaust category I have what it takes for large power uptop... But ya down low I'm pretty boggy. I'll have to advance some timing a bit.

Hey..Did some more tuning..

Lowered the analog fuel down to 0 (wow).

I am attaching my maps & and a datalog.

It ran a consistent 12.3's a/f...was great...the datalog was done in 3rd gear..

Of course you have a "0" on the analog global settings...you have the map loaded with "6's" hehhehee

Its like having a 4 in the Global and 2-3 on the map.

I have it in 7 and my map is loaded with 1 and 2's and if I want to go low temps...a 3

The interesting part is....the boosted area...impresive you dont have higher numbers.

Yeah..that turbo module is kickin tons of fuel..I know i could boost higher if i really wanted..and not have to worry about runnin out of fuel..but i am very limited w/ only stock internals..

I can't wait to install my Custom CO2 Setup and hit the track...I should have the kit installed soon..And expect low 14's if not high 13's w/ street tires.

Chas(laugh)

wow bro- maps are looking good. I can't wait to try them out. Fedex says my laptop won't be here till Monday!!! Eek I'll have to wait it out until then. I need to pull a little more timing, actually I want to try your timing map.

Tonight on the freeway both a new SI and an older prelude with a ton of boltons wanted to go- I let her rip and left the SI in the dust BAAAAD. The Prelude was at my tail and drifted to about 1/2 car by the time I stoped and we were over 120nmph.. :) But the car felt great!!! 9psi with no problem at all.
