2003 Mazda Protege ES
Hello, I am new to this forum.

Anyhow a friend happens to be selling his turbo from his mazdaspeed protege. I own a 03 ES automatic with triptronic and I'm not to familiar with car tuning and moding. I believe they run same engine but mazdaspeed is manual and mine is auto, will that make a difference in installing?

All in all I am just wondering will it work and how much work would it take

The automatic has a limit of torque that it can handle before it slipps

Some have slipped at only 4 psi and others claim it is good till 6 psi

Neither are very high.

The stock transmission in manual form can handle much much more

Some of us have run it to 18 psi for a long time, they eventually fail as well.

Below 16 psi, a manual will last forever unless you are abusive

Yes whole kit I believe for around $500 is that good price?

And Brian I'm not very knowledgeable about turbos so what you are telling me is that I would not be getting good boost at all to maintain that my engine does not break down?

No he's saying the auto trans in the protgs can't handle much power at all so you will be forced to keep boost under 6psi or it will slip. The motor can hold 10psi

That is one hell if a deal wish I could find one like that

Haha yeah, thats why i was wondering, its good to know thanks for all the info. I'm def going to pass then if it wont really help, what would the best part to add right off the bat be?

Manual trans lol for power autos are pointless IMO

Stock dyno on auto is 65 hp
Stock on manual is 90-100

He sold it off now I think for more. I like autos just cause most my driving is city, but when i go on the back roads or highway I like to have a little fun. GM lent us a 2012 Buick Regal turbo for the summer, so now ill prob start focusing on my car a little more since I wont need to rely on it, I'll prob start with headlight retro, tint and exhaust.
