there is a article on the msp in the new issue of turbo magazine. It is there new project car. I just got it today in the mail. Also on the last page there is some device to limit clutch travel, and they used it on the msp.

They didnt do any performance mods yet beside the clutch thing, but said they have big plans for upgrades. It is a titainium MSP

Also SCC has the MSP listed as one of the eight best cars under 30k. pretty impressive.

Definately need more info on the clutch travel thing. That's one thing that bothers the hell out of me.. You have to floor the clutch to get it in gear. Any brand names/models/etc would be very helpful.
 
With out actually verifying this, I believe Mazda intentially limits how quickly the clutch engages, not travel. Just like BMW did on some 540's, I believe. This is to avoid driveline shock. BMW accomplished this by installing a flow limit valve in the rubber flex line from the master to slave. A simple retrofit with a non valved one, did the trick. Everyone who did this on the BMW said it made a big difference. I suspected such a device while driving my car on a daily basis. Let me know if anyone does a retro fit with an es part.

Any driveline changes should be compensated with some new Motor mounts. You'll shake the head right off the block with harder engaging clutch!

You know, you can actually feel the limit on the speed of clutch engagement through the pedal.

Without starting the car, engage the clutch and lift your foot as fast as you can without it coming out of contact with the pedal. Part way up, you will feel your foot come off the pedal because the pedal slows down.

My experience is that you really have to pop the clutch to feel the difference in speed. I never let out the clutch that fast. I would almost have to just slip me foot sidewasy off the pedal and let it spring up on it's own for it to make any difference.

Also, if I did pop the clutch like that all I would get is hoppy wheels.

I think its oct. im not positive though.

I will chack out who makes this part for the clutch later. It looks like a real simple device.
 
Nice A/F ratio they got on the dyno.

i saw it 2 days ago, the article is only 2 pages telling a bunch of stock specs and what their first steps are going to be, nothing great. just find it in a store and read it there, it takes 2 mins.
 
It's the October 2003 issue. It starts on page 30 and it features what looks to be a sliver (not titanium) MSP.

Their baseline dyno with 700 mile on the odometer is 158.2whp and 160.9 lbs-ft wtq. :eek:

The statment that sticks with me the most is this:

"We observed boost pressure rise to 7 psi before settling around 6 psi for the remainder of the run."

This is amazing to me because most people on here have reported a 6-7 psi spike and then a 4-5 psi sustained. :( Unfortunately I think my car is one of those with the 4 psi. At a resent Dyno day I got a 136whp and 155 wtq. I do not have a boost gauge yet but I can make an intelligent guess that I am right.

A long time ago I was told that for every 1 psi you gain approx. 10 hp. So using that rule:

6psi (turbo mag.) - 4psi ( my guess on my car) = 2psi

If every 1 psi makes 10 hp, then 2psi = 20 hp

158.2 ( turbo mag.) - 20 = 138.2 ( me :( )

I had a friend at the dyno with another stock msp and he dyno'ed 147whp and 150 wtq. His boost gauge held at 5 psi.

So it would stand to reason that I am 4 psi. ( damit most buy EBC)

Its called the "Arospeed Quick Clutch Adjuster"

Man, I have read their little article on it several times and I still cannot figure it out.

It looks like it adjusts the pedal stop point, but I do not see how its going to help the throw. Or maybe I am just stupid and "can't read good".
