Top speed of a Chevy Aveo sedan

Crazy Q, I know.

My mom and bro were stopped for speeding out in the desert. Ticket is for 99 in a 70 zone. A rented 2006 Aveo sedan with auto. Two heavy people (400-405 total) and luggage. Flat highway.

It looks like the sedan is 103HP. But I can't find top speed info on the U.S. model. Is there some sort of defense I can put together for them? I'm gonna have them do a hearing by mail. The main point will be that the Aveo can't do that speed unless going downhill.

They swear to me they were not going that fast, which I believe since my mom gets on all our cases for speeding. Besides, even I, the speed demon, don't approach 100 on the freeway. 85 is my tops.

Thanks, Doug

Your proof, if you find it, will not matter. You are not concidered an expert.

I know, that's why I was hoping for some published specs. But I don't suppose C&D has done drag tests on the thing.

Google it. 99 in a 70 does seem really high.

Unfortunately the only info you'll find, I think, is for a 5 speed hatch, which somehow got up to 110 in Car and Driver tests.
