Street Racing Sucks

I now remember why I don't come in here that often. For a forum that doesn't endorse street racing there seems to be a lot of stories about "kills" on the street.
Of course I doubt that most of them are even true considering they all sound like bad dialogue from the fast & the furious. No that's not true, Most of these stories sound even more made up that that movie. Now heading out to a deserted industrial area is one thing, at least you'll only kill yourself, but these impromptu street races have got to stop. Take it to the track!
Flame away, but when you can't mod your car or afford to insure your car or the cops hassle and profile you just for having mods, just remember the street racers that cost you that right.

I agree, Our local members sit alongside Main St here in High Point, and we see people racing inthe streets and going crazy. A few months ago we saw this Celica loose control and slam against one of the telephone poles along the side of the road, the ricoche and hit one of the Mazda trucks on our lot. I dont know how she survived!!

EDIT:also noone can stop people from posting there "encounters" on the street, if they did we wouldnt have any good flames or arguments...what would be the fun in that

I'm not gonna flame, but comments comparing my hobby (modifying my car) to that stupid ass movie, bug the hell out of me...They made F&F about imports enthusiasts, like me, and lots of others around here. I for one, hate that movie(I still haven't seen part 2). Yeah, I street race when someone's got the balls to roll up on me at a light. But I've been doing that for years. Way before that movie came out.
Sure, I get hassled by cops about my car, but it's gonna happen. But when people see my car and make a comment about how I did it to "be like the cars in The Fast and the Furious", I just wanna slap them.
It's easy to street race and not kill anybody. You just have to know when to race, and when to call it off before it starts.

I agree. Some rants.

1) Insurance: Rates are based on population samples (i.e. 18-24 year old males, living in City, USA, etc.). All you assholes that constantly get into wrecks (or worse) due to street racing are making it more expensive for the rest of us.

2) "Bragging rights": Take it the strip. Get yourself a legit timeslip. If you have the balls (and car to back it up), then get something legit and embarrass someone in front of an audience (or get embarrassed yourself - which is most likely the case....).

3) Risk of others: I've read on here (and seen in person) people blowing red lights and stop signs due to not being able to stop or because , "dude, my car is like so totally fast, my wing was giving me so much downforce, I couldn't stop so I just blew the light..." or some stupid, 5th grade bulls***.

If YOU get killed, that's thinning the herd and I have no remorse for it. But if you end up killing someone else that just happened to be in your precious way, or just happened to be in your passenger seat(s) then burn in hell.

2K3 Mazdaspeed I hate that movie as much as you do and agree with most of what you're saying, I mod my car as well and want to keep that right. But street racing punks who think that movie is reality will cost us that right.

Agreed, but some people just don't learn unless it happens to them. I saw a guy in a '99-'00 SI on the freeway(no doubt trying to show off in front of me) a few weeks back roll his car because he was cutting in and out of traffic and dipped into the center divide dirt and over corrected. He ended up upside down and backwards in the dirt near an exit ramp. What the stupid part is...He ALMOST lost control about a mile earlier. That's why I kept my eye on him. Luckily, he didn't take anyone else with him when he wrecked. He was only 18 or 19. No doubt the car was brand new to him. I was actually the first one to stop, so I called the highway patrol and made sure he was okay. I made sure to tell the cop he was racing though, because the kid made it sound like someone cut him off

This happened a few weeks ago in Vegas...right down the street from me. Taken from KVBC.com....

"It could be a while before authorities positively identify a man who died in a fiery street drag race wreck early this morning. A spectator was also hurt in the 1:20am crash outside a bar near Cactus Avenue and Bermuda Road. That's in unincorporated Clark County.

Las Vegas police now are interviewing the other drivers from the three-way drag race. They think the 31-year-old owner of the 2003 Nissan 350-Z and the two other drivers were in the Hurricane Bar and Grill before the race. Racing down the street, the driver lost control, hit the bystander -- and clipped two light poles and a fire hydrant before hitting a parked U-Haul truck and bursting into flames.

The pedestrian is at the hospital with two broken legs."

*sigh* I have really no sympathy for these idiots except for the innocent bystander who got hit when one of the cars went out of control. Dang....let's keep it safe ya'll.

As much as I'm not a fan of drag racing outside of the track, I still enjoy going to the street races(industrial park ones). The last time I went I got really discouraged though. A few reasons:

-Stock Econo Cars, even with mufflers, are NOT racecars.
-There's no reason to go over your trap mph, IE 16 Seonds civics not shutting down until 100mph.
-Too much alcohol around the races.

I enjoy heading out with friends and playing around, but NOT around other people. If everyone just used common sense, street racing wouldn't have the bad rap it does now. There's a reason its been around forever and that stricter laws are coming around only now.

Its quite wierd though, in Houston, HPD will break up the racing for about 30min and then just dissapear and let everyone race for around 2hrs!! Its as if they only care aobut racing on the main roads and not at the parks...

Whenever I street race, I almost never go past the posted speed limit. Top speed has nothing to do with it. It's all acceleration. First one to a certain speed wins. If it's too close of a race to call within the given time/distance, then you take it to a secluded area for higher speed runs.

I love street racing when there are no inocent bystanders to get hurt. The only thing I don't like is when people start doing the dumb reckless s*** around other cars. We race in this plaza around here its about 1/8 of a mile run. It's fun though.

2K3 -- You got the right idea! If you do it right, street racing isn't dangerous... but we all know true stories about people doing it wrong and killing or hurting innocent bystanders. Most people I see street racing do NOT do it safely and unfortunately are a menace. The drag strip, auto-x course, and track time are the best way to do it...

No offense...but how can you say street racing is not dangerous when they are happening on public streets? There is always a potential for innocent bystanders.

Street racing is dangerous, unless you are doing what 2K3 said, namely running within the posted speed limit. I don't think going from 0-50 mph as fast as you can is dangerous if you are doing it in a 50 mph zone -- I generally call that "pulling away from a stop light." ;-) If someone next to you wants to race you to 50, then I don't see it being any more dangerous than usual. Unless you pull a bonehead stunt and extend it to 75 mph...

Alright...so there is a loop hole . I guess that stuff doesn't happen to much here in Vegas unless you want to run against "fancy lad" rides like SUVs and Benzes and Beemers and s*** like that. I know my ass would get waxed in a street race, that's why I don't do it.

A few years ago i would have flamed you, but with the recent death of a close family friend ( she was killed by 2 kids racing )
I say take it to the track , it is safer for you and for others on the road. Plus you will get ****** by the police if you get caught here in cali.( get caught twice and you lose your car)
