rockin the awd.....
i wa slookin at the protege5online.com steering column gauge pod to put on my msp...does it fit? also doesnt anyone have this product and can vouch that its good quality and bolts on like factory? i just dont want a unquailty product...thanks

i dont feel like searching now.. but there is a thread somewhere..

I have one. It doesnt fit like the stock one, but it lays on top of the lower steering column plastic.. It is pricey, and made of cheap material that cost no more than 25 cents to make... yet it serves its purpose and is a very useful pod. i posted pics in the other thread.

so do u recommend it ??? i dont wanna spend that much cash for somehting i gotta "fit" on....

it needs to be glued/ velcroed on to the steering column.. it doesnt snap in like the OEM one does. i like it because it isnt flashy and it is easy to see.

yeh thats why i was interested in it...but i dunno if i wanna spend so much on a pod just to have to "glue" it on .......

Almost went that route...

I was gonna buy that until I saw the way it was set up. Then you gotta glue/sticky tape/velcro it over your existing column (I realized this was done cause of stock column seems to be glued together even though the screws are removed) which was OK with me. I just didn't like how it blocks the speedometer when the wheel is set all the way up. Then, I saw on my friends MSP that the wheel is dropped so he can route the vacuum line and wire's for clearance. I didn't like that, I couldn't find a clean way to run the vacuum line. My setup/solution, I bought the autometer 2"gauge pod in black ($20 Autozone or hookups at a friends race shop) and mounted it off-center left on the stock column. I'd have to admit I jacked the "scoobie's" setup but, the column gauge pod is original. However, I found a cleaner way to set it up using the "scoobie" method. My Advice, do your homework before you buy and be creative. When my friends heard I was drilling holes and tapping screws they thought it was going to be a disaster, nope. I've done this ca-ca before. When I get my digi-cam back I'll show picks (Hopefully before noon). Everyone says it looks clean. I think I've seen other people on this board with this setup.

this is my steering wheel column pod:
(my column moves up and down freely, the only thing that is being blocked is the odometer)

Yap,

That's close to what I did in the second pic. Nice work. I ran the vacuum and wire's a little differently though. I think the version my friend bought was some cheap knock-off because yours does look pretty good. The one I saw was way bulky and the pod area was kinda huge but his gauge fit. Me personally I'm just trying to go for that lo-profile and stay away from pillar pods

Why don't you just do this:

If the demand is high, I might be able to have a kit available for $20.00 or so.

vic, next friday? T_T

after seeing spicys... and Dr. sounds pics.. I gotta say that the steering pod looks much cleaner.. It may be expensive, but it does look nice an has a stock look to it. and no exposed wires.

Steph, you do have a lot of miles. I just broke 40k on my 01 mp3 two days ago, and i though i had a lot of miles.

I just wanted to chime in here, I actually use 2 screws to hold it on...now before everyone goes AWWWWW.......I also used 2 screw caps that covered the screws so you can't see them at all and it looks great IMO.
