i've got 2 JL 10w0's waiting to be put into the protege, and i'm toying with a few ideas for the setup:

1 JL 10w3(v2) on the right side on the trunk
2 JL 10w0 on either side of the trunk

i'm really a big SQ guy, but i also like SPL at times(thus the JL's)

would a single 10w3 deliver enough(max watts: ~360) or should i stay with the two 10w0's?

2 10W0s - better spl
1 10W3 - better sq

these are based on using the same am,p for either setup

2 10w3s powered by a JL 500/1
best of both worlds

What amp are you using?

i'm gonna be running a coustic 220XR
probably at 4 ohms mono. its rated at 360watts @ 4ohms, but it doesn't say if that is rms or max. i assume it is max since i've been pushing 180 on each 10w0.

the amp is def. not a f1 alpine, but i don't wanna spend anymore money than i have to on a system i'm gonna only have for 9 months.

thanks for the clarification.

as for imaging, i assume the single w3 should be in the middle of the trunk.

Your amps rms power output is 250x1 @ 12 volts and 360x1 @14.4 volts

heres the manual

Alpine F1's are processors and headunit system not amps, but I know what you mean.

I think you'll be happier with the 2 10W0s. You do have enough power for 3 10W0s, but not for 2 10W3s.

JL's pre loaded boxes are the cheapest way to go to get there subs. They are built much better then Q-loqics and only end up costing about $60 for sealed once you subtract the subs price.

Heres a fun one

All boxes are 4 ohms total

Imaging, espaecialy if the sub is faced backwards won't matter where you put it. Also imaging for a sub should be none existant. The bass should sound like its infront of you not behind you in an SQ system.

I can tell you from experience in the protege 1 10W3 is just about enough, i power mine at the moment with a DEI 500 4 channel bridged on the rear channels...that thing is sweet. it's enough that most people think i have 12's....i always said its not so much the speakers but in the setup...two 10W0's should be good if plan to upgrade the mids and highs, otherwise the subs are gonna drown them out.

oh yes, i'm gonna be replacing those paper comps!! i looked at the rear deck speakers and they said max: 25 watts. bahahahaha.
