spool turbo and CARB

I want to purchase the spool stage 1 kit, but since I am in California, I am hesitant because of the potential difficulties in passing the visual part of the state required smog check. (My question is this: since I have an AEM short ram, and I have a CARB EO sticker for this, if I install the turbo kit, might the smog check technicians think that the sticker is for the turbo kit since the short ram will be gone??

Comments please.

there's no real answer to this question for us californians.. no one knows for sure if the spool kit will pass smog or not

Any turbo kit that is not carb certified will fail visual inspection (that is if the technician knows what he is doing). Basically any bolt on mod that does not have a CARB exempt# in Cali is illegal. As for our kits passing the sniffer in Cali. I am pretty sure it will but not definite.

The Spool kit will probably pass a sniffer test if the car is tuned well. Usually the first cat is there for cold start light-up.

You'll never be able to get a CARB number for it, though. Removing a cat is illegal.

I was actually wondering if anyone thought that an inexperienced or careless smog check tech might presume that the CARB sticker for the short ram would be for the turbo setup?

Haha thats just the odds;)

Yes our kit was never intended to pass CARB.
And removing the cat is illegal. We state on our site that the kit is for off road use. However one should pass almost any sniffer test

Hey Keith I've been waiting for you guys to fix this problem......you guys must've kept both cats for a reason......you've gotten other FM kits a carb eo#.........when do we get a little sticker to put on the protege kit so us californians can have some fun to, my money's either going to a stoptech kit or a smog legal turbo, it's up to you guys. I'm just still waiting here with cash in hand.

We'll get a CARB number for it, no problem. It's okay if you get the number after the kit's been installed - you just need it for the smog check. The important thing is not the sticker, it's the EO number.

We just have to do the test and approximately 1 cubic yard of paperwork. Not a problem.

I wish I just needed it for a smog check......I've already been pulled over and asked "Is your vehicle mechanically sound?" Cops down here do roadside visual inspections. It gets a little annoying......but if you guys are goin for a carb eo that's everything I wanted to hear.

so if one was to purchase the FM kit in california, he/she would have no trouble w/ emissions and no problems w/ the cops? completely street legal right?

Yes, Yes get that carb number. I want in on the smog legal turbo too.

That's right. Completely street legal once we get the CARB EO. Of course, you may still have problems with speeding :)
