Speedo/Odo error

Has anyone out there actually checked to see how accurate (or not) their speedometer & odometer are? I dont think Ive come across any threads dealing with this issue.

Ive always known that my speedo reads faster than I'm actuall going (100km/h indicated is really 97km/h) but I didnt know how far out my odometer was. A 119.0km trip in my 97 Ranger is a 122.3km trip in my Mazda 5. Thats like being out by 2.8%, just about the same as my speedo error. By the way, the Ranger's speedo is spot on. Makes one think. At this rate, the 80000km I have on my odometer is really 77841km. Thats quite a difference.

Yes, Ive been running the stock 205/50-17 Toyos. So my question is, has anyone else noticed that their odometer and speedometer are out like mine or do I have an isolated discrepancy?

when you replace yout tires, move up to 215/50-17. It will make your speedo more accurate - only 1% off instead of the 4-5% listed above.
(100 miles on the interstate by the mile marker copped out to 101 on the odo.)
