Speed 6 vs. WRX STI

The 04 STI is equal (driver mod), the 05 is faster, but just a bit. The 06 STI rips you a new one by 2 lenghts. Straightline speaking of coarse.

Dude what the hell?

I wasn't aware of any difference in the 04/05 STi's regarding power.... how come the '05 is slightly faster? Did it get a better clutch that year or something?

okay so in a str8 i can see how it would beat us, what about a around a track? I know they were designed for rally use sooo would it be even better or....?

I gotta ask if you have such a sick modded WRX... why is your avantar a protege? man u gotta post pix of it for us at least.

That's my old Protege. My WRX looks like a stock bugeye, complete with scratches, dents, etc. Stock rims, and it sits a little lower than stock because of the coilovers.

I challenge STI's and MS6's. I'll run my other 2.3 turbo car. Shouldn't be too scared its only running on 30 year old technology.
Check my sig................ So who's game. Oh my latest numbers are 7.88 @87.4mph in the 1/8th. its not blazing fast , but not bad for being a 4 banger in a stock weight SVO (3100lbs)

Oh my question how do you get 2 identical drivers? Hypothetically speaking???
STI still beats a MS6, hell a stock ms3 will beat a slightly modded MS6 if its from a roll. Sorry the MS6 is nice, BUT its too damn heavy.

some cars have better gains that others. My 350Z doesn't pick up much from even a full exhaust as compared to a Sentra SE-R Spec-V. I used those two for comparison because they are both n/a. My younger brother has a Spec-V with quite a bit of bolt-on's, and granted it's lighter, but his car almost keeps up with my 350Z - it's alot closer than I ever would have expected.

Oh, and to just a 4 banger - Nice car. I'm not a big fan of the Mustang, even the SVO, but I love Merkur XR4Ti's(same engine).

When I was growing up, it was either Ford or Chevy, I choose Chevy.

Right, but if you're modding an STi & a Speed6 the same the STi will be faster. There's no way around that.

Yeah, I would expect the STI to end up faster, it's just a more fleshed out platform at this point. In addendum to that, the ECU on the WRX/STI is wide open, so the hardest part of tuning is finding someone to create a good tune. No need for piggyback, some people go UTEC which does allow a bit more in the way of tuning as compared to the stock ECU, but many people just use either Cobb or OpenECU(free!) to reflash custom maps onto the stock ECU.

Oh, and I only have 2 cars. I traded in the Protege for my WRX in October 2005. It had 32,000 miles on it, and was supposed to stay stock. I've had the Z since March 2005, and it's stock and rarely driven. The WRX is just too much fun.

Man.....you've put a helluva lot of $$ in your ride for it to be a 14 sec car. you should have just bought a stock MS6. That's a 13 sec car off of the showroom floor, and.....much better eye candy. (evil)

AND>>>>> How can you not launch your car? Slip the damn clutch for a sec at 4k and hammer down....it's really not that hard. (rei)

It wasn't really planned, mods happenned in small groups. I don't launch the car for fear of damaging the transmissions notoriously weak gears.

Yeah, 12k invested roughly. Now it's just a matter of me learning to drive it. Others that have been in the car, driven the car, and people with similar mods are all saying it should be a mid to high 12 second car. It's pretty quick.

Any NJ MS3/MS6 owners wanna meet up?

Oh, and my time@trap should tell you something is up with the launch for AWD. A trap speed of 103 is absurd for a 14.0 with AWD - again, slipping clutch back then.

Mazdaspeed 6 vs. Subaru WRX STI. Hypothetical situation: both stock with identical drivers...... who wins?

I would say STI too. I had a WRX that we modded once that could beat an STI. But I would like to see that in person. :)

Why do people always say "invested" when talking about how much they have dumped into their cars?! (chair)

It's not an investement unless it's an original Hemi car etc etc!!! (smash)

It's an investment in fun - but yeah, a moneypit to be sure.

Still, I get to use it on a daily basis, it's fun to me.
