Just take a picture of how it is set up if you can't remember and look at the picture as a referance to where everything goes....It's very simple actually....Once you have it off I am pretty sure you'll be able to figure it out without a write up.
SMIC and piping is very easy, a couple of bolts for the SMIC and clamps for the piping. Use a hair dryer to heat the pipes a bit and they will slide off easier.
You will be able to do it rather easily. Four clamps on the intercooler piping (8mm or screwdriver), disconnect the BPV hose from the upper pipe (pliers) and remove the 2 bolts from the SMIC bracket (10mm) Depending on which replacement you went with you will only reuse one bolt(CustomMSP) and you will need to fiddle around with the fan a bit to get it good enough. Same goes for a CAI if you have one.
Just be real careful when working around the radiator. Use a piece of cardboard if you have to inorder to prevent making contact with it with any tools. You don't want to cause a leak. I found it easy to do the R&R from underneath the car while it was in the air on jack stands.
It really is a low RPM job. Enjoy the test drive when you are done. Don't forget to check and retighten all of your clamps after a few drives.
Does the bumper need to come off? I'm replacing the piping, too. I assumed the radiator would need to be removed in order to replace the intercooler...
You dont need to remove the bumper or the radiator, just the cooling fan. The IC is held on there by a couple of bolts on the bottom and the radiator bracket on the top, if I remember correctly.
I agree the FMIC is best but an upgraded SMIC and pipes/BOV is still a viable option and will greatly outperform the factory setup. Anything is better than the stock SMIC and 2.5psi pressure drop. Expect 1-2 extra pounds of boost after the install.
