Should this be connected to something?

I was working on my `02 P5 this weekend and had to take off my air intake hose. After I got everything put back together I noticed that the bottom little rubber hose that comes off of the thing that sticks into the intake hose is no longer connected to anything. (Sorry that I don't know the right names.) I'm not sure if it was connected to anything to begin with and I don't see anywhere obvious that it should go. Does anyone know? See the attached image.

yes the hose should be connected on the back of the intake mani (side by the firewall), right by the throttle body.
