Remote Starter question

Is the remote for the starter a separate unit or can it interface with the switchblade key? I really want remote start but I dont want a second remote to carry around. I would opt for an aftermarket unit if I had to have 2 remotes and enjoy the added features. On that note does the factory keyless entry remote have a transponder in it?

The factory remote start is a separate unit and separate remote, the key FOB can't be used or programmed to the remote starter unit. The remote unit is approx 1.5" x .75", not that big at all. I happen to have a factory remote for sale if you are interested PM me.

If I could just get a regular key to replace the switchblade one it would not be bad. As long as I dont need the whole switchblade for anti theft or something.

I got a aftermarket alarm as I have to travel for my job and I can't afford to have my samples stolen from my car, so I have the alarm remote and a regular key (same as in the link from davebert), works great for me. Just don't pay the dealer to program your new key as they will charge you a arm and leg and as long as you have 2 already programmed keys for your car it takes less than 2 minutes to program it yourself.

Oh wow, very cool. I love the switchblade key though, too bad its gotta go then! Mazda wants ~$250 for the starter without install but you can get a top notch 2 way with lcd remote for the same money that will do lots of other things from a mile away, like roll down windows, open the roof and put on defrosters, etc....Too bad we dont have many power options to activate remotely lol.
