Reliability Issues

I'm recently a new CX-5 owner and have read about reliability issues with particularly the 2016 year model.
Can anyone shed some light on potential problems that I need to be aware of. My car is low mileage and
well maintained by dealer so hoping that helps preserve its history moving forward.

2016 is one of the best years put out. Pay attention to possible EPB lock ups, they revised the brake caliper for that. Also, timing cover/oil pan leaks.

Glad to know. Thx for the tip. Always found it strange trying to use the electronic parking brake switch. Don't engage it too often. Will be installing new brakes and rotors in next 15k miles.

If you're DIY'ing the brakes read up on maintenance mode. It has caused many a headache for the shade tree mechanics.

What's your mileage?

inspect front suspension components for play, looseness, or worn bushings
check valve cover gasket for leaks
check belt tensioner performance
inspect belts for wear or cracking
check to see if your EPB is under recall or has any issues

In short - very little issues at all.

There was no recall for the EPB, just a TSB during the first couple years. Had to do with the rear rotors locking up. I've had my 2016 for 11 years and never had a problem with the rotors.

Agree - I've had zero issues. Passing the 16 to a family member.

Rear caliper TSB

2016 CX-5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3KE******866136 (produced before September 9, 2016)

Some vehicles with the electric parking brake (EPB) may exhibit rear brake dragging, resulting in brakenoise and abnormal outer brake pad wear. The vehicle may also roll momentarily when starting from astand-still with the EPB applied. This concern may be caused by the EPB not releasing completely.Modifications to the calipers have been made to eliminate this concern.
