Reducing oil consumption.

I'm surprised there wasn't some sort of stock check valve somewhere on the PCV system.. for a factory turbo car that's just a silly oversight.

They knew to put one on the fuel system (canister purge check valve), why not the pcv too.. it's not like it's an expensive part.

I was under the impression this is what the stock PCV valve is supposed to do.

PCV valves typically expect there to be vacuum on them.. optimally you want there to be vacuum in the crankcase from what I've read. The stock PCV doesn't expect there to be pressure comin at it.

unless of course the MSP PCV is a different part number than the normal Protege PCV, but looking at the parts diagram while assembling my turbo build I didn't see it there.

I have the miller cycle millenia pcv right now but still gettin tons of oil consumption.

Someone on this thread mentioned tha Castrol was a better oil. I don't know for sure yet, but I've switched to Castrol from Mobil 1 on my last oil change and so far so good for oil consumption. I change the oil every 5000 km, and last period I had to put in almost 2 quarts to top it off. Now, I'm half way through (2500 km since the change) and the dip stick is still at full (that with a cold engine)

Edit: I just remember that I also used Engine Restorer in my previous oil. So there are 2 variables...

Changing your oil every 5000km can actually increase wear on your engine. Head over here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ and get ready to throw all you've ever heard about oil in the trash can ...

~1500-2000 miles after an oil change, pull the dipstick with the oil settled into the pan, and it's well below the L mark.. I had to add 1.25 quarts to get it back up to F. Same thing the first change since turboing. The car burned no measurable amount of oil before going turbo. The PCV also didn't crap out all sorts of oil before going turbo..

I check my oil at least once, or twice a week. Hell, I also check my vac lines, and my exaust bolts too.

How about now with the krank Vents?

Only driven about 40 miles. She isn't licensed. But i did wash it yesterday and ya know those black specs of crap from your exhaust that gets on your rear bumper? I could be wrong, but after the 40 miles i could've sworn there wasn't any after i got back last night.

When my first engine pop'ed, Mazda told me all the crap on the rear bumper was burnt oil. Even after the new block i always got it on the bumper (aka it was still using oil).

Too soon to tell for sure.

Ok, when I get mine, I will definitely be putting some miles on mine, and will let you know as well.

I got low mileage but I remember having to add some oil once....but since the millenia pcv valve, I haven't had to.

Also, I've been putting 3-3.2 quarts/626 oil filter since day one....would over filling lead to more blow by? Cause I've noticed some of you on the forum put 3.6-4 quarts with a regular Protege oil filter.

I got a low milage engine as well, but this past weekend when I got home oil was below the F mark not much but I assumed it was because the engine was so hot and the oil hadn't settled...

But I'm running 6 psi now and I check the oil every day I haven't been burning any.. funny thing is, I don't have the PCV valve either, I don't remember what Little beavis did but I have a fuel line going from the valve, to a T which is going to somewhere else, I will ask him this weekend why I'm not burning oil, not that I want to but maybe I can find a quick solution for you guys.

I specifically remember telling me he found a way to reduce oil consumption... w/my set up.

I will get back to you guys on this
