Hey guys. Well, I am finally back to almost normal after the family ordeal. Things are all fine, just had to take care of some problems back on the mainland. Thanks for all the kind words before my last departure, and thanks for the help with my audio questions. The layaway thing was a great idea Nuke, and I will be doing so starting tomorrow when I get back to business.

Ok, got a kinda dumb question for you guys, as I am sure you can provide some advice. A friend of mine in the Army has a Civic Hatchback. Anywho, its all riced out of course, except for the stereo, which he is working on. We have been looking at the same stuff in regards to amps and speakers, although he is in love with the Bazooka NOS bottle for the looks of his "Rice Mobile."
I told him that everyone on this forum I look at(this one), that no one has anything nice to say about Bazooka products. I told him that I would trust you over a crappy salesman here anyday. He asked me what sub I was going with, and I told him JL Audio, after recommendation from this forum.
So, it brought up a question, is it possible to strip the sub out of the NOS bottle from Bazooka, and then install an 8" JL Audio sub or any other sub of better quality? He said he doesn't want any pounding bass, and that the old 8" he had in his old car sounded fine to him. He is just stuck on the bottle to go with his real NOS bottle in the back.
So, what do you guys think? Is he completely out there, or is there a chance that this could work for him?
Thanks again in advance for any comments you may have.

considering it sounds like the LOOKS are more important to him....and he is going to buy the BOTTLE anyway....I would say for him to just go ahead and get it....hook it all up and see if it meets his expectations....it just might....then there is no more money spent than required. As for could you change the speaker in it? probably so...just not sure how one of those things comes apart.

Well, the big problem with Bazooka tubes is not that they are crap, it is the fact that the enclosure style is not the best type to reproduce bass accurately. PORTED enclosures are not the most accurate reproducers of bass. When properly corner loaded, the bazooka tubes can perform rather well. I actually put one of the NOS 8 tubes in my wife's car and it performs pretty well. It is not actually the type of bass that either of us prefer, but I did not have the time to do a "full install" before the NOPI Nats and wanted something to look neat back there, so that was it. I will admit that it is only temporary and it was more for the novelty, but with a Rockford 150AII powering it, it sounds pretty dang good. The fact that it will be in a hatchback will really work to his advantage.

peace
Griff

another thing about the bozooka tubes is that the tube is tuned for the speaker they use. replacing it with a different speaker will probably make it sound worse.

You shouldn't put a JL or other sub in it. ANother Problem with Bazookas is the powered ones tend to pop alot at turn on and even radio tuning. The externaly powered ones woun't have this issue. If he can spend more on the subs and amp then this tends to tickle the ricers fancy.

Not anywhere near as homo-erotic as the Bazooka but it will do.
500 rms power handling.

Once again, you guys rock! Thanks for the advice, and I'll let him know.
As for me, I got the stuff put on layaway today, but hopefully it will only be there for a month or so. I was asked today by some close friends and some family members what I wanted for christmas. I explained to all of them what I wanted(all of it car related of course), and they said, "sounds great!" So, hopefully I can get each of them to buy one piece of the equipment, and then all I will have to do is install it or pay for the install. Either way, it saves me about $600 that could easily go for the down payment on the next item up for bids, rims for the car.
Thanks again guys, talk to you later!
