I need your input on the purchase of an EBC. I am considering the Blitz SBC i-D III and the Apexi AVC-R. I would like your vote and input on the best features of each. Also, you may vote for another EBC or just a plain ol' MBC like I have now.

Buy the Greddy unit. I like mine a lot for three reasons:

1. With the Greddy turned "off" I still have stock boost and the unit will show me my boost pressure.

2. The Greddy has two settings, a LOW and a HIGH. I can move between these two settings by pushing a simple little button. Plus, I can program each of these settings to perform individually.

3. The Greddy unit does not spike. You set it and it goes to that point. No drama, nothing. The thing just works like it is supose to. Also, it does not have a stupid LCD screen that you have to mount some where.

3a. I like Greddy's products (their fit and finish is great) and the boost controller, along with my turbo timer, come with a year long warranty.

Hope this helps.

CRDMS1 - the Blitz set-up would be good for road racing etc. If you're drag racing the AVC-R will be better b/c you can limit boost/gear.

Thanks for the input. Yes, one of the reasons I want to go electronic is for consistent/programmable boost (i.e. no more spike-and-level monkey business).

Interesting. Can you please elaborate why the Blitz would be good (better than the Apexi?) for road racing and/or autocross applications? Other than daily driving, this is my main use of the car.

I got the Blitz, and love it. It has 4 boost settings, and when coupled with the Power Meter, will display MANY other functions. It also has a boost limiter, warning, gain control for boost, a boost bleed if overboost occurs. It also only took me 30 minutes to hook up. A clean, simple install, and easy to use. :D

CRDMS1 - the AVC-R is better for drag racers as there's less "finesse" associated w/ changing the gears.. hence you can limit boost / gear not to bust the gear box.

Road Racing & Auto-x require alot of clutch/box skill which when done properly will preserve the gear box, which will allow the use of more boost/gear. The SBC has a better solenoid as well.

if i had the dough i would go for the blitz, but that is me.
i just ordered my joe p. mbc, so that is gonna have to do for now.

for a side-by-side comparison look in a magazine called
TPR (Tuner Performance Reports) they had a good write-up about different boost controllers in the summer issue. not a "who is better" but very informational.

their website is:
www.TPRMAG.com

I like the older HKS EVC Pro. You can get one on EBAY for less than $150.00

2 presets.

manual knob.

Very reliable.

Just my opinion

I'd go with Blitz or Greddy - preferrably Blitz. I'm not positive on this but isn't Blitz the only one that gives boost readings in psi - the others require conversion from bar, Pa, etc.? Not absolutely sure but I think so.

No, Larone, you can convert the Greddy over to PSI, but it really does not matter. Here is the formula:

?kg/cm2 x 14.22 = PSI. Real simple to convert over.

Hope this helps some more.

That's what I'm saying, don't u actually have to do the conversion with the Greddy whereas with the Blitz no conversion is necessary? I know using the formula isn't rocket science but still, it helps to see a quick reading in psi than in kg/cm2 and then convert.
