after doing some research it appears some mazdas have a bad ground wire connecting the mass airflow sensor. Reports included stalling at idle and lagging take off. I haven't experienced either but I definately felt something was off at idle but I thought it was my imagination.
I guess ill take a look tommorow for the ground wire. Hopefully this can be fixed without taking it to the dealer.
Yeah it corrected itself. Thanks for the responses though. I think the problem was that my boost gauge vacuum hose popped off the T when I was driving for about 5 min. I guess that made the car run too rich down the road.
Well the CEL decided to come back tonight. Same P2188. Ill clean off my MAF sensor tommorow and hopefully that will fix it. How would you diagnose a faulty O2 sensor ??
One of the things I have noticed is that at idle it occasionally dips too low for a few seconds. Gets down to about 600 and feels "rough" like your not giving enough gas to engage 1st. But it corrects itself and idles fine after that.
Not like anyone cares but I figured I would "conclude" this thread for the benfit of future searches. Was driving home from school and my A/F ratio dropped to around 11 at idle and the rpm's dipped like crazy and the car died. I jumped out and luckily saw the problem almost instantly. The recirc line on the BOV wasn't fitted properly. It was kind of tilted creating a small hole which allowed air to escape causing me to run rich. Haven't been able to fix it so I just slip the hose on the nipple as good as I can everytime I drive.
When I have time / get home for thanksgiving ill be sure and reclamp that.
