Well, here I am at work, working over again. Another twelve hour day, my fourth so far this week.

It gets tiring when you are used to working five eights...

Oh well, all this OT will get me a turbo...So maybe not blues, but good thing for bills.

the blues will all disappear once the pay check hits. I used to b**** about it when i worked for an 8A contractor doing road construction 5 12's all the time...but the checks were sweet, if you could get to the bank before their account ran out of money.

The only thing that sucks though, in Colorado, when you get over 20 hours of overtime a month, you get hammered on taxes. When you start pushing 30 to 40 hours in a month you start making less than your normal hourly rate on each hour of overtime, instead of the usual time and a half.

Well, the other thing that sucks is being kept up past your bedtime every day. I usually go sleep at 8:30 in the morning, not noon or 12:30...

Ok, I'll trade some of my OT for some seat time in your BMW...Fair trade??

gee....your worried about getting 30 to 40 am MONTH....geeeez....I get paid twice a month...the 15th and the last day of the month....

I just did my time sheet calculation tonight....THIS paycheck, roughly 2 weeks...has 72 hours of overtime on it. talk about an adjustment.....going from working 4/10's to working 6/12's.....yep the paychecks are very nice....just wish I had some time off to spend some of it!! lol

Yep, I'm worried about 30 or 40 a month because after taxes you make less than your regular hourly wage, little alone time and a half.

I get paid monthly, by the way...

this thread actually made me think about the time I had put in and I went back and found a mistake....I shorted myself....my overtime for the last two weeks is 81 hours.

to do rough figuring....with taxes all the deductions....I just take 42% off the top and its real close. regardless of how much OT there is.

I'm glad I could help you sort it out. We don't want youshort yourself any of that time.

Sir Nuke, you are nuts for working that much. But, like I say, all this OT will be helping buy my turbo.

I've been averaging about 25-30 hours of OT every month for the past year and a half. Obviously some months have more and some have less, but that's what I've come out to.

Damn nuke, to be working that much OT you guys gotta be in a fall outage.

YEP we are in a full blown Refueling Outage.....

believe me guys....I am perfectly happy working 40 hours a week...and if it weren't because I had no choice...I would not be working these kinds of hours. but its only for a short time so its no real biggie.....

this particular outage we are replacing our steam generators.....and since I will assume that most of you don't know what I am talking about....its the part of our system that we circulate the hot water out of the reactor through to make the water in them into steam to run our big steam turbines that make the generator go around and make electricity.....the steam generators are about 28 feet in diameter....and about 100 feet long...and weigh something like ONE MILLION pounds.....its quite a job...thus making this outage a long one....65 days....a normal refueling outage is only 21 to 28 days for us....and with two units...and an 18 month cycle....it means that I did this twice this year...then once next year....then twice for the next two years...then once...and it goes like that.....but like I said....a normal outage is only three to four weeks...ANYONE can do these hours standing on their head for that long.

So, if they weigh one million pounds, you are saying you and a buddy had to lift them out, instead of just you doing it??(rockon) (wow)

no I didn't physically do it....I am a supervisor in Maintenance, we aren't allowed to do the REAL work....we just have to tell people to do it! lol

HOWEVER, and SERIOUSLY, I could have done it by myself. (I happen to be a certified operator of the Reactor Containment Building overhead crane :{D )

(stash)
