Oil Starvation--Need solutions

Hey guys.

I just installed a wrx oil filter on my p5. It fit perfectly no leaks at all! It larger than the stock one...and will hold more oil...This could be a band-aid!

Subsribing....I could be interested in a baffled pan or such.

Mazda V6 filter works too and is bigger than stock.

IIRC, that filter also is for the V6 mazdas and a bunch of others....

Updated first post with things to get in order of importance. If anyone wants to modify the list or add something let me know.

Guys I did a little research. I think that this just might help.

I saw one of these things advertised on one of the car shows on SPIKE TV. It is pressurized and with pump oil into the motor when the oil pressure drops, then it will go back into the unit when the pressure is back. Seems pretty good, anyone want to try it?

Any updates on that oil pan?

Something like this would be a very cheap and effective solution:

^ LOL

i'm sure it wouldnt be difficult to make up a baffle when someone has the oil pan out. all we need is a template then we can do them all ourselves (as welding would be required to fit the baffles)

Hahaha....a mold for a certain product....sigh..

OK, but then you would need them to fabricate the baffles for the 2.0L FSDE.

Looks like another submittal proposal.

A deeper pan wouldn't cause any scraping issues would it (> 2" drop)? Have to get a kickplate installed at that point?

i know some of you have had your pans off and some have them laying around -- so can someone post an inside picture of the pan --- im just curious :)

i still think the vertical baffles idea sounds the best to me.

dont forget a deeper pan wont be good for a lot of people - we already have a very very small gap between the pan and the exhaust...

Baffles would definitely be the cheaper route, but I just put more trust into a completely new design based off of the conditions that I know my car sees. Also the exhaust only runs under the extreme left side of the pan and doesn't affect how deep the pan can be. Only ground clearence issues stand in the way of deeper sumps for us.

I also talked to one of the engineers at Tri-Point considering the oil starvation issues and to ask if they blocked the oil squirters off as was mentioned in another thread. The person I talked to wasn't sure about the oil squirters since Sunbelt took care of the motors, but he did say that they were running an Accusump system on the new Mazda6 until the dry sump system gets developed. They used a 3 quart cannister, but they have more places to mount it than we do and I'm pretty sure that it isn't going to fit in the engine bay of one of our cars as long as the battery stays where it is.

Any updates?

OK I know its a little old, but thinking back to past Sunday, I believe I fell victim to the oil starvation bearing failure, she's still running though...

I took the car pretty hard through a Left turn 270 degree exit on ramp (I think that's what it would be called---going from East to North, with south and west passing on your left :)

So before I put in the new motor, or short block, what's the fix?
This turn is by my house and I might have to try it a little faster next time ;)

dude, try HARDER searching! you didn't type in "oil pan" did you?
and nice one btw... bringing back a 2 year old thread

Neither did you

11 pages of topics

Suprise suprise a topic will be disscussed more then once in 2 years (omg)

You expect people to fish through 2 year old topics to avoid starting a new thread? Good luck with that (first) .
