1996 mazda Protege
New here on the forum. I have a 1996 Protege, manual trans, 186,000 miles. Use for commuting, very reliable. I just replaced the clutch and now reverse gear does not seem to work. Worked great before. I see several similar experiences here, a few pointing to looking at a reverse sensor? Any ideas? Thanks!

you cannot engage reverse but you can engage the other gears?
is the shifter itself not going into reverse?
are you in reverse but not moving?
do you have clutch pressure?
did you adjust the clutch pedal height and freeplay after clutch install?

The clutch works great and all the forward gears work fine. It seems to go into reverse mechanically, but nothing happens. It's like the gear is just missing..

what happens if you have the engine running in neutral and put it in reverse without using the clutch. does it grind? or does nothing happen at all. also are you sure you torqued the bolts on the disk correctly?
