New Guy w/ P5

So pulled the tweeters out of the "OEM" panels posted above... found this:

Picture's blurry, but that's an Infinity Reference series tweeter, I'd imagine not stock? Oh well, my tweeters have a surface mount adapter that uses the same screw alignment, so I can still make use of the panels, which are in really good condition (sadly I demolished the first tweeter pulling it out so I cant sell/use these tweeters elsewhere). Stereo is supposed to come on Friday, but I'm away from my car until Sunday, hopefully will be able to get it installed then. Just hoping the PO used a plug in harness adapter for the old Pioneer in there now, then the install should take no more than 20 minutes, including splicing up the harness and running the rear mounted USB cable somewhere sensible. -JG

Its alright, life goes on with the tweeters, got the JBL's to replace it. Over the past week or so, got my new radio installed, its pretty sweet, but in the process found out I have a blown passenger side rear speaker. Found out how tough it will be to find a decent set of 2 or 3 ways for the rear to match the components I got. The components I have are 2 ohm, 75w RMS, and 93db sensitivity, and it seems the rear doors have a pretty shallow pocket. Anyway, as I installed the new radio, I also ran some 4-channel RCA's for an amp eventually, along with a remote wire. Really like the new HU so far, HD Radio and USB are nice to have, and it really makes the stock speakers sound a lot better than the old one. Got the tweeters in (AKA popped off old panels, dropped the wiring into the door panel), so those are all ready when I get a chance to do my sound deadening/component install in the front door. Also on my week off, started more rust prevention:

Mostly looking to stop the surface rust bubbling up on the lip of the fender above the tire, didn't have time to take off the entire wheel to do it the right way (for now). Having the flash on makes it look more ridiculous than it actually is. Just gotta scuff, prime, paint, clear. Hopefully the color match won't be too bad. Hoping to get that done maybe next week, (besides then) I'm not going to have time to work on the Mazda, school is right around the corner again (just spent my money on books). Anyhow, pretty lame update for now, not enough time for anything too fun. Later, Jaron

Well, back again, POR15 spots are topcoated and cleared, just need to work on the blending, pics later. Speakers still aren't in, not much progress to speak of on that side of things. P5 rolled 154k on a trip up North last week, averaged 32.5mpg over 400+ miles. BUT got a check engine light, P0421, the dreaded catalytic converter code. Will probably start tomorrow by making sure the O2 sensors are tight. At 154k, if the upstream O2 sensor looks original, I'll probably throw a new sensor at it, can't hurt I guess. Might look at a new header/non-fouler if the new O2 sensor doesn't do the trick. Does anybody know if this code is self-clearing? Like if the computer no longer detects the problem will it clear the code? Or do I have to clear it and then see if it comes back? Anyhow, new headunit kicks ass with USB and AUX, front brakes still need to be done, as well as my component install, amp install, etc. Too many projects, not enough money/time for now.
